Just double checked some of my info because I tend to keep everything on file (sad I know). When I originally applied for Aqua the cards were issued by BOS (Halifax Card Services) and the search was carried out through CALLCREDIT. Now (presumably since it went to Progressive Credit) the search was done through Experian.
On CC my file shows clean, whereas on Experian I am still showing 1 default that is 4 1/2 years old. I wonder if that is the reason they have declined me now.
I just assumed it would be done through CC the same as last year when they accepted me.
Oh well don't suppose I will ever know for definate but if my scenario helps someone else in the same position then its all good.0 -
Sorry you didn't get accepted Simon. I was surprised I was too. I could still get a "you already have a card and not eligible" or "you can have this card but we cease your old one" message yet though.0
-
I already have their basic card and have just applied for the reducing interest rate card.
I have just got the message:
"Thank you for your recent application for an aqua Credit Card. We're pleased to offer you a credit card with an estimated credit limit of £500."
Lets see what happens
LOL. I got a 'we'll be in touch within 10 days' message.
I already have the basic card and applied for the reward one for the cashback but mainly wan't it for the the no foreign currency exchange fees.0 -
Doesn't it just make you bang your head against the wall then fall over laughing:rotfl::rotfl:
Will we ever be able to understand how these credit card companies work????
I am now suffering from a severe case of Deja vu (hope I spelled it right:o)
After having my Cap One Classic account for 9 months, I decided to go for the Progress card and reducing APR. I was accepted online then declined 10 days later. The day after being declined I receive a latter from Cap One...........
Good news we have increased your limit on your classic card from £200 to £800.
Last night I applied for the Aqua Advance for the reducing APR and 0% foreign transactions as an existing Aqua card holder with 12 months history of paying in full on time etc.
I get declined because my payment history does not match their criteria, fair enough their choice.
This morning a letter from Aqua........
Good news, we'd like to increase the limit on your credit card from £500 to £700. We've looked at how you've managed your credit limit and believe that the new limit is suitable for you.:T:rotfl::T
This bit is new from the last increase, I can just let it happen in around 40 days automatically, or return an enclosed refusal slip, or ring them and get the increase applied straight away. Last time you just had to wait for it to happen or write to them if you didn't want it. There was no option to get it now by ringing them.
So once again different company same process.........
Declined for the better card and given an increase on the existing card.
Will anyone ever know how these companies work????0 -
Well Simon you're not alone, they declined me as well - no specific reason but they implicated Experian. I might get a statutory report from them just be sure nothing is amiss. I have a few credit accounts now including an overdraft from last year and all have a solid positive repayment history.
I also have a reasonable amount of searches on my file from the last 6 months and just recently got a broadband package from BT which also required a credit search so it's probably looking a bit cluttered by now, which might well be the reason they declined me... although being a subprime lender I can't see it being as relevant.
Just thought I'd chance my arm for an opportunity to have a bit of "cash back"; but I'll have to wait patiently now for a little while until my file gets clean again - and who knows, by then I might be able to mainstream anyway.Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
Sorry to hear that Maestro, as you said it's not a nice feeling. My decline definately said it was because my payment history did not meet their criteria. All I can think of is the default on Experian from 4 1/2 years ago in my case. It probably is worth getting a fresh report from Experian though in your case if it didn't state the reason.
I still can't believe my payment history doesn't match their criteria for the new card but they give me a limit increase on the existing card..........
One thing that is definate though is Progressive Credit are using Experian instead of CallCredit they used before.0 -
I would assume this " Cashback " cash has a stricter lending criteria than the original aquacard. they couldn't afford to give everyone 3% cash back.
Maybe its more of prime card with a subprime APR.0 -

I got this too, so at least it's not an instant decline, but a delayed one instead:rotfl:
Simon, I had the credit limit increase letter for my basic Aqua card, it never happened though! It said in the letter that I would be informed if it wasn't going to happen, I never was. Upon calling them, they denied sending me the letter:eek:0 -

Interesting you say that, as my card was the decreasing one, and I seem to be one of the few accepted...0 -

Maybe they both have stricter criteria. if you get 3% cashback and a rate that drops 5% they arn't just going to accept anyone are they?
You must be doing something right Kyresa.0
