West Brom 60 day notice ISA

just rang up to ask them about their “having to transfer in my other ISA” as didn’t feel right saying “no I don’t have any other ISAs”

The lady told me that even with the new rules West Brom don’t allow more than one ISA and don’t allow more subscriptions to other ISAs in other banks or building society’s. She said West Brom was one of a few that weren’t allowing it.

So I was wondering if there was a list somewhere already of those not allowing this?

Guess there could be 2 lists,
    > one of banks and BSs that only allow subscription to ONE isa in their institute
    > And one list of banks of BSs that won’t allow you to have ISAs in other institutes.

Re the bold bit, ignoring the fact that this person you spoke to was clearly clueless about the new regulations, it is not up to them to make that decision, it is permitted in the regulations.

In any case how would they be able to prevent anyone from subscribing to an account with another provider?

Have a read here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6514005/new-isa-rules-april-2024/p1.  It has never been necessary to "declare" ISAs from previous tax years.  West Brom have no power to prevent you subscribing to other ISAs this year except insofar as if you sign a declaration that you won't then later tell them you have they might be able to terminate your ISA (by requiring you to transfer it elsewhere).  I suspect if push came to shove they wouldn't do that; they just haven't got their heads around the changed rules yet.

The Daily Mail and moneyfacts are listing a Newcastle B.S. single access ISA at 5%. This interests me, because unlike all the others above it in the rate table (please correct me if wrong):
    1. Electronic transfers
    2. Flexible (just 1 flexible accss is all I need)
    3. Easy Access
    4. Not a brand I distrust (Zopa, Plum, Chip) without real contact numbers for resolving the ISA transfer issues which seem to affect me routinely

However, the mail's link takes me through to a landing page without the ISA on it. Might be one to watch today if of interest:

Sorry to drag up an old post... but this account is indeed now available (in branch only) as I opened one today.

Strangely there's not even a mention of this account on the Newcastle BS website, but was being advertised in the window of the branch.

Might be useful to some if you have a Newcastle BS branch nearby. My account was opened instantly with the usual excellent customer service.
  • Re Chip EA ISA

Put some funds in the ISA to park it there for a short while as it is instant access and flexible. I now took some funds out and put some others back in. However, the allowance overview doesn't make any sense.

I put in £3000, then I took £800 out and put the next day £700 back in.

My understanding would be that after I put £3k in my remaining subscription for this tax year is £17k I can either put in CHIP or anywhere else.

Now after I took £800 out should my remaining subscription not show still £17k and would only change from the point I put £800.01 back in, which would say that I have now subscribed £3000.01.

However, when I check in the Chip app under Profile --> ISA allowance it just shows my current balance.

With the scenario above, should the Chip app not show £3000 used up, even if the balance is only £2900 (£3000 - £800 +£700).

In essence, if I once put £3k in and take out and replace my remaining subscription limit should always show as £17k. With Chip it doesn't seem to be the case.

Has anyone else noticed that Chip doesn't seem to show this properly?

For a flexi ISA it's only the "net" deposit (for the current tax year) that matters. So if you add £3000, take out £800 and put back £700 (again: all in the current tax year), your net position is £2900 and you've got £17100 of your allowance left (assuming no other ISAs)

I've been checking this daily online and it wasn't there first thing. I knew it was brnch only according to moneyfacts.

I called up Darlington branch to ask if there was any way they could open it remotely for me, and the lady said they'd had an email saying it was going online .... today.

I checked again, and sure enough, just 2 hours after I last checked, it is now available on t'internet.
