After April 6 The Dunfermline Building Society is launching an account in the new tax year paying 6.86%...

Worth adding to the main post?

Thanks for the nod on this one, have you any idea if this is fixed rate or if there are any special conditions attached etc?
I reserve the right not to spend.

From memory, I think it's going to be a regular saver.

applied in branch for my Barclays isa for next year and filled in the relevant forms.
strange that it can only be opened with a cheque or standing order..........has cash gone out of fashion?

My young sis is going into Barclays on Mon to open an ISA (this is a real breakthrough as she spends spends spends what she has- a student but not in debt -YET!)
So its important that Barclays dont turn her away cause she doesnt have a cheque acct-
MUST it be cheque(could it be a cheque made out to her by her MUM?) She intended to take in cash. Thats for 07/08 yr.
I've suggested she sets up a small(even) standing order for the 08/09 yr..
    Any advice????

Wouldn't take cash ? I presome that you mean the folding sterling variety and not in coin bags ? Was it an i.d. prob or is she an existing customer ?
The credit crunch has obviously not permeated as far as Barclays yet then.

Setting up an ISA with Barclays says you can either pay by cheque if a new customer as Barclays have a seperate department to deal with ISAs, so it wouldn't be safe to be sending cash all over the place whilst setting up ISAs....

If you have an existing Barclays account you can transfer monies from those accounts when filling in the application form for an ISA.

The reason why Barclays insist on a personal cheque from new customers is for ID purposes, as personal cheques are a better ID check than utility bills etc.

Mini cash isa's that accept transfers in (with strict conditions applied)
    • Alliance & Leicester Premier ISA (issue 2) - 10.00% :starmod: NEW :starmod:
Rate guarantee? No. Minimum deposit: £1. Operated via: Internet and Telephone.
Notes: Transfers in are accepted after 06/04/2008 and 50% must go in to a stocks & shares ISA via an Alliance & Leicester Branch.
Important: Available to existing current account customers who must hold a Premier Current A/c and invest at least £5K in an investment product in branch at the same time.
*Looks like another ISA to avoid.*
If anyone can think of any other ISAs I may have missed please do suggest them.

    Hi everyone,

I went through T&Cs of this account and am understanding that:

    1. If you currently don't hold any current a/c with A&L, and have not held one over the last three months, you can open one now (Premier Current Account to say more precisely) and get a Premier ISA Issue 2 at the same time (clause 2.1.1). Then:

    (a) If you put NEW money in (£3,600 from 06 April 2008 onward, for 2008-09 yearly allowance), you get your ISA nest sorted WITHOUT any string other than paying in at least £500 to your Premier Current Account;

    (b) If you transfer in your previous ISA allowance, you will be subject to minimum 50% stocks & shares ISA investment as mentioned by Kazza above (clause 5.3.7.1)

    (c) If you transfer in your current year ISA allowance (i.e. 2007-08), you must transfer the whole amount to either ISA mini cash or ISA stocks and shares a/c (clause 5.3.7.2). In this case, I would assume we prefer the whole amount to ISA mini cash!!!

    2. If you already have a current account with A&L, you must buy a product and invest at least £5,000 to such product for at least 30 days in order to get a Premier ISA Issue 2 with A&L (clause 2.1.2). The, the (a), (b) and (c) above will apply.

Do I get it right? If yes, then this a/c would be the best available for those having no current a/c with A&L and want to subscribe a new ISA with them?

Or I will get trapped later on? Your views please.

    Thanks and cheers,
