Sorry, this is OT but I'm curious so of course you're entitled to ignore the question... but I've just read your signature and am wondering what benefits you can get if you have £16k in savings? Just wondering as I got made redundant last year and couldn't get anything as I had more than £8k put away.

Thanks Suze & CL! Popped into town this morning as i was literally having nightmares about this last night. spoke to an advisor and was informed that the delay is to be expected as they literally have thousands of applications to wade through and that i should get some paperwork in the coming week or so. I feel quite silly now for fretting :o

It was interesting to read about the two different interest rates on Barclays ISA, I completed the application online and telephoned the customer service centre number (found a 0800 number from the 0870.com site). i spoke to a guy there who told me i just need to turn up to my local branch. Went to my branch, waited 20 minutes to be told I had to make an appointment to open an account. Went to a second branch and bingo, opened my 6.5 ISa with Barclays for 2007 - 2008. To ensure i did not lose any interest, i gave £100 check, and will deposit the rest on 5th April 07

Sorry if this has been asked already but was wondering...

I want to transfer my ISA but wont have time before Wednesday. Only gettin 4.5% (Cheltenham) at the moment and want more. Can I transfer my ISA at any point? What are the rules? Is it only if I dont put money in in the new year until its transferred?

    Thanks.

You can transfer your existing ISA at any time

Thanks for the msg - I didn't check that out, no. I'm now employed again, but at the time thought that the £8k thing was cut and dried. If I ever find myself in that position again I'll do some more investigating!

Yes, you can add money in April, then transfer or do it the other way around.

No worries Suze. I get DLA. Care and mobility. This comes to £132 a month. I want to get off it but don't want to act in haste and regret at leisure. I realise that I can keep getting it even if I am working as long as i fulfil the DLA criteria.
