Great work Kazza...you will need until next year to recover!

I just wondered if there was any reason nobody is mentioning the mini cash e-isa from First Direct? 5.60% until March 2008, and then 4.65 variable thereafter. 5.75% AER.

I'm still deciding - don't like Barclays so maybe NS&I is a good option...or the FD mini I've outlined above?

Notice on the Barclays site it does say:

The bonus offer and the above rate may be withdrawn at any time without notice.

Interesting. From my fag packet calculations it looks like its better to combine my 2 existing ISAs into Abbey at 5.75% then put 3k into Barclays than transfer the two into Abbey at 5.75% then top that up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did look into the First Direct ISA when I made the list, but I wanted to include only ISAs that savers wouldn't have to transfer out of before 05.04.08. Savers taking out the FD ISA would need to transfer out by the 1st March 2008 before the rate drops to just 4.65%. In my opinion, there's no point savers transferring into FD when they'd have to transfer back out in 11 months. What with there being excellent non-bonus rates offered by Kent Reliance (5.71%), YBS (5.65%) and Ruffler (5.93%).
    Please call me 'Kazza'.

I popped along to Barclays on the 19th to open up the TB. Got seen by an advisor and he filled in the application on the computer and took copies of my ID. I deposited the £3,000 by cheque into the account and left. Sounds good so far, apart from the fact that I haven't received anything in the post relating to the newly opened ISA a/c and i didn't get a receipt. Tell me I am being silly even worrying :( Is this normal? I am hoping to put another £3000 in it on the 7th of April if all goes well.

Filling in the form online was fine. It was the time it took them to post it to me to sign and send back which was the painful bit - literally weeks.

I had exactly the opposite experience - opening the NS&I ISA was the quickest and easiest one I've ever opened (took about 10 min online, using a debit card).

Has the £3k left your chequing account yet? If so, I'd be a bit worried...

Can you not ring them to find out what stage they're at?

Thanks Suze & CL! Popped into town this morning as i was literally having nightmares about this last night. spoke to an advisor and was informed that the delay is to be expected as they literally have thousands of applications to wade through and that i should get some paperwork in the coming week or so. I feel quite silly now for fretting :o

Don't feel silly - but DO keep an eye on it :) They should at least have given you a receipt I reckon.

I dreamt about work last night which was a nightmare in itself.
