Thanks so much for all the encouragement and ideas. I wouldn't have thought of measuring myself but I think that could be a positive step for me. I am not suffering from clinical depression or anything but I have just got myself into a rut about this weightloss thing. Unfortunately I ripped some tendons in my ankle at Christmas and have only just got totally mobile again and the inacivity has just compounded the weight. At least now I shall be able to walk normally again. What is FWIW by the way?
Well done you on losing your stone and thanks for taking the trouble to try to help me - bless you. Will let you know how I get on.

Hi Ria, yes Jo is right about FWIW!

Now look, if you haven't been mobile it's inevitable that you would put weight on - pretty much so, anyway! the only reason you wouldn't is if you can't get at the biscuit tin, IME (in my experience!)

And if you've been injured I'd even more recommend seeing GP to make sure you don't do anything you shouldn't on the moving front. If you can get Exercise on Prescription that would be the safest option, rather than 'doing your own thing' and risking your ankle again. Did you get physio for the tendon?

Glad the measuring idea helped. Don't expect results overnight, even less so than when you're weighing yourself!

The thing is, I don't 'feel' any different to how I did before I lost weight. I know some of that is connected with my medical problems, but I didn't 'feel' fat then and I don't 'feel' thinner now, even though my trousers fall down if I don't tie the drawstrings up these days - but I blamed the elastic getting too stretchy! And I cannot begin to imagine what I'd look like if I ever lose enough weight to no longer be overweight.

But I KNOW I am no longer clinically obese! And that's where I'd like to stay, if you don't mind. Meanwhile since I have to take a decent walk every day or my blood pressure shoots through the roof, and I'm not supposed to eat chocolate ditto, I should be able to manage it.

AGH! Computer upgrade, all me smilies have vanished, need to find them again! But not right now ...

I am desperate and need to lose to at least 3 stones

    Me too!!

1st weigh in yesterday and lost a pound.

Could have been better, there again could have been a lot worse - went to a wedding do on Saturday night. Limited myself to 2 glasses of wine (and stuck to it) and a couple of chicken drumsticks.

I find it difficult to make time for any real exercise although I was at my Mums last night and she has one of those giant trampolines, got on with all the children and 30 minutes later my legs felt like jelly!! Wonder if this counts?! On a more serious note though going to do 40 minutes this Fri and Sat evening of my workout dvd - nothing better to do.

Hope everyone is doing well, it has gone awfully quiet here.

Definitely! Trampolining is a serious form of exercise, completely exhausting! And physiotherapists have them, too!

Well, after deliberating a lot ... I did it and last week joined my local slimming world class. Have just been back for my first weigh in and I am slimmer of the week with a 5lb loss :j

I know you lose a lot on your first week but I am well chuffed ! was only expecting to lose about 3lb. I am now a total slimming world addict and carry my book with my everywhere.

I know I won't have the same enthusiasm in several months time but I AM determined to do my best on this one and keep it going (2 week holiday in a months time is looming up worryingly !!)

My starting weight was 13st 6lb and I am aiming to lose three stone. Short term target is forthcoming holiday (maybe a stone by then if I try really hard)My long term aim is hubbies 40th next March
I AM positive about this and am writing it down as that helps me too!!

Thanks to all those who have mentioned about the S.W. diet as you are the people that spurred me on to doing it. My only regret is that I didn't start it sooner.:D

This is quite a long thread, but I wouldn't mind joining it also, just haven't had the time (at the moment) to read all of the entries - so apologies if I duplicate anything.

I was always quite skinny until the doc put me on steroids (about 14 yrs ago), and I ballooned by an extra 2.5 stone. As soon as I came off the steroids I lost about half a stone, but the remaining 2 stone has been really stubborn. I can lose 8lb, and then put it all back on again.

About 10 yrs ago I was in a car crash and suffered quite a bad whiplash injury which meant I could no longer stand for periods of longer than about 2 minutes. This also meant I could no longer walk everywhere, although walking was much better than standing. The back has gradually got better and I can now stand (thanks to yoga) for a whole 90 minutes football game.

So I'd like to start again, walking for fitness I hope.

    On Sunday I weighed 11st 4lb, I'm 5' 4", and a size 14. Before the steroids I weighed 8st 7lb and was a size 10. I'd like to get down to a size 12 with a FIRST target of 10st 11lb (7lb loss).

I KNOW I should only weigh myself once a week, but on Sunday afternoon I went to Holland on business, did an awful lot of walking, and got back last night. This morning I weighed 11st 1lb - a 3lb loss.

This afternoon I plan to walk to the next village to get father's day cards - about 20 - 25 minutes.

I didn't realise that - the children are going to have to watch out next time I go to my Mum's!:D

That's brilliant well done. I must admit I really like the slimming world plan - green days especially.

I have been making myself walk to the post office that takes 20 minutes to get to rather than the one 5 minutes up the road, pushing 8 month old in pushchair and with 3 year old in tow. It's good for them too!!!!

Just to let you all know, that following on from my mammoth post a couple of weeks ago, I tried really hard the following week but stayed the same when I went to get weighed in - I was gutted and have spent the last week eating rubbish mostly but managed to stay the same again.

I suspect that I had actually lost the first week but fluid retention or something had stopped it showing because I really should have gained this week.

Anyway, following on from a family wedding, I have decided that I feel really good where I am and that I'm really not bothered about the last half stone. It helps when everyone you haven't seen for a while keeps complimenting you!!

So, I set my SW target to be what I weighed on Mon night at class and got a big silver star! It means I can go for free now to help keep the weight off and if I decide at any time to go for a bit more of a loss, I can do.

Good luck everyone with your own journeys - I'll keep popping back to see how you're doing!

A quick tip for SW members, try and make sure you can stay to class as it makes a huge difference, both for picking up tips and for staying motivated.

    xx
