They say life starts at 40 well it will be for me.. We dont always realise how our weight upsets the kids, Im going to look into ways of losing the weight as if im realistic i have over 10 stone to lose to make a daughter proud of me rather than ashamed ..
In all fairness, i think that in Britain looks seem to be much more of an issue (especially weight) than other societies. I think that the obcession to be thin at all costs is quite unhealthy in itself (and shallow) but if its affecting your health then by all means address it. I'm amazed at the number of (almost anorexic young women) wandering around. My friends daughter (who is 10 years old) is always watching her weight as are all her friends which is alarming to me. What is society teaching them? When will intellect and generosity of character rather than looks be valued in this society? I think that the amount of abuse toward people who are overweight here is ignorant beyond belief, which the media reinforces. Its a pity that your daughter has to be ashamed and says more about the environment outside the home than anything about you. But I hope that you succeed and that you start to feel good about yourself. I'm sure that you will.0 -
PS. Have you checked out your local leisure centre? I get to use the gym, swimming pool, attend all classes for £23 a month. They put me on a training program which is great (and everyone in the gym is overweight so no need to feel like the odd one out!). The doctors often refer patients there for exercise programs for losing weight, or after a stroke etc. I really enjoy it!0

Hello All,
I've been reading through this thread and I'm hoping I can join in with you.
I bought myself a new skirt yesterday (without trying it on!!!) when I squeezed it on at home I cried! I can't even show hubby cos I'm too ashamed.
I've been putting off starting a diet since Christmas, last night I swore I would start today and yet I've just eaten a packet of crisps and a huge chunk of cheese!!!
I thought maybe if I announce it on here it will give me the incentive to start.0 -

There is nothing to be ashamed about - even if you do feel that you want to lose weight. It is not actually a crime - honest - and we have all been to shops where we can be a size bigger or smaller than usual just because of how they size their stuff!
Wait till the skirt fits nicely and then show your husband or else go back and swap it for a larger size , cut the label out once you get home and if you feel embarassed in the shop say your sister wants a size bigger!
We all know what it is like so please do not feel ashamed as it just makes you (or rather me ) take comfort in food"This site is addictive!"

i have personally lost about 2 stone this year, and am feeling great, but i still have 3 more stone to lose.
hows everyone else been doing?
hope alls well for you all, and dont worry about set backs, they give you the drive to keep going!!
i had a really bad week recently ate loads of take aways and felt like giving up..but then i thought no, iam not letting myself down again, ill keep going, and its working!!0 -
Thanks elona,
Was wallowing in self pity earlier!!!
I've been on to the daily diet tracker website and I've set myself a goal. I'm going to keep THE skirt and hopefully when I reach my target weight it will fit nicely

dont think its so much that she is ashamed of me but more that as im so big i might die.. she worried abt my health as this is what they been doing at school healthy eating and living etc and she thinks mabey i could eat healthier to help me lose weight therefore i wont die young..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,

Sorry Jockett i misinterpreted what you said, i thought it might be the other interpretation but wasn't sure. It's just that so much in society is about the appearance rather than about health issues so i leapt to the wrong one. It's good that they teach them healthy eating in schools and that she's aware of the health risks. I hope they teach them positive body image as well as this seems to be a major problem for people these days. Could the doctor recommend a dietitian and the NHS pay for it? After all, isn't the NHS supposed to be encouraging us to get fit and healthy? Perhaps they subsidise the leisure centre fees if you have a doctors referral?0

Does anyone know when I will actually start losing some WEIGHT rather than just toning up?0
