Re: Lose Weight 4

Hi, I really need to loose some weight and thought the support of everyone on here might help.
I've always been overweight, but have managed to put 3stones on in two years after moving in with my boyfriend!
I now weigh a frankly horrific 18 st 4
I know that it won't be an instant transformation and I'm going to have to work hard, but I'm ready to do it. I've never dieted before, so don't quite know where to start. I've told my boyfriend and he's agreed (as he does all the cooking) to do me smaller portion sizes, and I've stopped buying chocolate (my biggest weekness). I've worked out that if I loose about 2lb a week, I should manage to loose 2 1/2 stone before my birthday which is in 17 weeks time. That is my first target.
I hope I can do as well as everyone on here seems to do.

You have got the right idea on the eating front: it's important to eat less. This will also save money! Changing what you eat can come gradually: reducing fat - grill don't fry etc; increasing fibre - brown bread not white etc; more fruit and veg! And it's good to have the bf's support as well, even if he doesn't need to lose weight you will both end up healthier.
But the other equally important thing is to move more: this can be anything you enjoy, from swimming to walking to cycling to going to the gym. If (like me) you don't really enjoy any of the above, then I'd recommend walking to begin with because it requires the least effort ... Getting a pedometer - cheap or look out for a freebie to begin with - might help: we're supposed to do 10,000 steps a day but if you find you're nowhere near that then start where you are and work up gradually. Hand in hand with the bf is nice ...
If doing without any chocolate at all is a problem, then buy a little, of the kind you really like, from time to time. And Ally recommends slapping cocoa butter over yourself: the smell reduces the desire to eat the stuff, she reckons.
Think whether you would benefit from a group like Weigh****chers or Slimming World. Some do, some don't.
And it may be worth asking at your GP surgery if they do anything like referrals to WW or cheaper exercise classes or stuff like that. Some do, some don't, but if enough of us express interest maybe they'll all get the message!
Finally, don't be too rigid about your target. Losing 2 lb a week initially should be feasible, but as you go on it is likely to become harder and harder, and 2.5 stone in 17 weeks sounds VERY ambitious to me! And if you look back through previous posts you'll see that weight can fluctuate throughout the month, so that can be discouraging.
What's more important than losing the weight is keeping it off. I was hoping to be down from Obese to Overweight by Christmas, which involved losing a stone in 2 months, I think. I failed on one level, in that I was only half-way there by Christmas, having yo-yo'd up and down to get there. But I succeeded on another level, because that half stone didn't sneak back on over Christmas: it has stayed off! I've been yo-yoing around and below that half stone level through January, and it's now coming off again because I've been ill, have not even fancied chocolate which is very unusual for me.
Sorry, I have gone on for ever but hope some of this is useful and that you are able to get off to a great start!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

i was just wondering how much other people have lost, and on which diet?
I have lost 4kg since January 5th this year . Im using Xenical .Even my husband has lost 2kg just by cutting out alot of fat in his diet . The only downside is that he keeps nicking my yoghurts !

hi sleepy,
my downfall is chocolate too!! i weigh 14st 9lb and have lost a stone this month doing the rosemary conley quick start diet. i find if i have chocolate in the house i eat it all, untill its gone (even if its the kids). so what i do is make sure there is nothing in the house that can tempt me, so if i really want something, i have to go out and get it!!
my boyfriend hides the bad stuff in a cupboard outside, for the kids (i asked him to do this) and it works fine, cause i dont have a key.he he
weight loss is hard, but if you have it in your head you really want to do it, you can. instead of just calorie counting eat things low in fat, say less than 10 to 5 % per 100g. this is what i know based on the numerous diets i have tried, but it works!!
have low fat yogurts and fruit available if you feel peckish, trim all excess fats of meat, like you say have smaller portions, or smaller plates so it doesnt look less!!
and lastly if you have a bad day, it doesnt matter, start afresh the next day!!! even if you feel bad, dont give up, you will get there.
p.s if you dont want to exercise in public, get a exercise video to do at home (i love doing videos they do work!!)

I'm new here and found this thread really motivating so I thought I'd join in, if that's ok. I'm 28, living with my DH and our 3 cats in Bristol.
I am currently 12st 9lbs having gone up from 10st 9lbs at my lowest. I'll tell you a wee bit about my history. My heaviest weight was 15st and I lost 4.5st by following the Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness plans, and attending classes. I was 10st 9lbs on my friend's wedding day a couple of years back when I was one of her bridesmaids
Over the past couple of years I've struggled to keep a handle on my weight and when I got married to my DH in June last year I had managed to get down to 11st 5lbs. We had a wonderful day and I felt great, even though I wasn't back to where I was previously happy.
We had an amazing honeymoon where I gained 8lbs, and then ever since I've been off the rails.
I started again on Jan 4th (like many others I guess) and lost a pound or two, and gained a pound or two so I'm now 1lb lower than I was on that date.
I really want to get back to 10st 9lbs again which is where I felt good, and it was a good weight for me. My target is to lose 1lb per week and I weigh in each Thursday morning.
I'm still following the Rosemary Conley principles of sticking to a daily calorie limit and everything under 5% fat but I'm struggling with the exercise as I have a really busy life and an even busier husband so we don't get a lot of time to ourselves.
Looking forward to chatting with you all and with any luck, you can help me with my motivation

I don't like the idea of excersing outdoors or in "public", so I decided to buy some stuff to help at home. Thanks to other boards on this site, I got a stepper and some weights from the boots.com sale using money off vouchers, on their 10% off day, so I don't even have to feel guilty about how much they cost
I was doing really well on the food front, until yesturday. It was our anniversary and my boyfriend and I went out for a meal to a lovely italian. I was considering not having dessert, but made the mistake of looking at the dessert menu - oops. I never can say no to creme brulee. But it was a special occassion and I've eaten much better on the other days than I normally would, so I think there should be some flexibility.
I'm doing a lot more walking at the moment as I'm campaigning for a political party and with the election comming up, we've got a lot to do. I spent 2 hours on sunday morning, non stop walking, delivering leaflets - so that should help. This afternoon we're campaigning in the town centre which will mean standing up and moving around all afternoon, which must be better than sitting in front of a computer, so hopefully I can redo all the good work that was undone by last nights meal!0 -
i got weighed in last night and have lost 2 and half pounds this week. finding it hard though!!0

Well done lazylins!!!
It is hard, I've been "good" and done regular exercise for a month now and still not an ounce gone...
Still, I feel fitter and can fit into some old clothes that I havent been able to wear for months so something is certainly happening!0 -

Congratulations to everybody who has been losing weight so far this year - well done.
This Christmas gone was the first time I can recall that I never gained weight in my adult life and I'll be 37 on the 15th - so that's a long time !!!
I put this all down to a great website that my girlfreind found about 9 months ago or so when she was looking to lose weight.
She found this one site where she could buy products and get full tailored support from a Personal Diet Coach..............................
If anyone is interested give her a call 020 8835 2044 or check out her websites https://www.healthnutronics.co.uk or https://www.besthealthproducts.co.uk she can post the products out to you and you can start losing weight by the end of next week if you're serious. I'm not sure where she is somewhere in surrey or south london I think and we're in Kent and it usually only takes a couple of days for delivery - so get the stuff and get a result and shoot all the haters and doubters up the bum !!!! 8)
Good Luck guys
Is it just me or does this smack of a publicity stunt advertising their own products?
Also, why does the website not publish any prices for it's products? Even placing something in your basket doesn't tell you how much it is and you are then required to input all your personal details before checking out. I stopped at this point as I'm not going to give them all my personal details just to find out the cost of a product
Sounds very dodgy to me"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
~
It is that what you do, good or bad,
will come back to you three times as strong!

Mmm, I had a look and thought the same. Any web site that doesn't advertise the prices of their goods has something to hide ... best to keep well away in my opinion. :rolleyes:Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0
