Actually I'm with the OP on this -

Bully gets his bluff called, and runs away like a little girl.

I know people turn into tools in the safety of their little tin cages, and particularly in the SouthEast with a high proportion of selfish drivers. It takes a strange state of mind to think of the other guy as a 'winner'.

But maybe next time, the other driver will beat you to pulp or stick a knife in you ... Seriously, is it worth the risk just to prove your machoism?

Nonsense, I'd pull out my keyboard and smash him to a pulp.

it would have been really funny if it was the boys in blue in an unmarked car ,if you can call them unmarked ,

I wouldn't expect the boys in blue to drive like that in the first place and if they did I would still have given them the abuse that I gave him.

I personally would have strangled him with the mouse lead

Actually I'm going to stir the cats among the pigeons, to mix metaphors for a moment -

Rather than chastise the OP, should we not be supportive? We teach kids the importance of standing up to bullies, and we as a nation have a cultural heritage of squaring up to a fight when threatened. In fact it is an important part of our defence strategy - take the recent hostage rescue that was on the news. If we allow bullies their own way, it encourages them - or in the analogy more kidnappings for ransoms. By squaring upto the fight, we as a nation do not look like soft targets, and any threatening forces have to factor in the 'plucky little Britain' factor (as opposed to attitudes to France, for instance).

Would I rather a nation that stood upto bullies, or ones that encouraged them? The OP dooing this may mean Mr Brave threatening fights will think twice about that intimidation technique again, and that benefits everyone on the road, even the hand-wringers and people less able to take a stand.

No, I don't condone aggressive behaviour, but absolutely stand up and don't take stuff like this from little tin-box tyrants (big or small). It is absolutely core to being British. Or rather without this attitude, we'd all be German for the past 70 yrs.

I don’t think anyone is defending the other driver’s actions. He tried to act the hard cant and was made to look a !!!!!! for it ... and great; no sympathy. The question is whether one thinks the Op’s actions were impeccable. In particular, surely he should have been rather smug & satisfied that the other driver bottled it and he scored a moral victory without the need for violence ... yet he’s started a vent here that the other driver didn’t have a fight with him!

You make a good point. Yes we do need people to stand up to bullies. The main problem is that it is those who take this stance who often come off worse.

Many years ago, some lads from a nearby hard school came around to ours with the express intent of starting a fight, and indeed one of our lads got beaten up BIGSTYLE ... whilst the whole school stood and watched. They had actually picked on his friend initially and he stepped in to help, yet no one helped him, even his so-called friend who he’d helped in the first place. This is not the only time I’ve heard of similar incidents, whereby someone comes to the rescue but then no one will help him, not even the person he was rescuing in the first place.

So yes, it’s a difficult one. In this case, one might argue that the Op was right to take up his roadside challenge and teach him a lesson. However, it didn’t need to have got that far, if the Op had cussed under his breath rather than mouthing off at the driver.

I didn't leave for work that morning looking for a fight. This clown thought he'd be a smart !!!!! and decide that he could just ram his car in front of mines and then decide to try to intimidate me by signalling me to pull over if I had an issue with his actions.

So I did what he wanted me to to. Obviously he didn't expect me to which is the reason why he bloused it and screamed off. (up the bus lane I may add so I hope he gets a Penalty Charge Notice through the door as there are cameras).
