If you pay a subscription for Sky, why do they then show adverts? More to the point, why is it tolerated by their customers?

The BBC by comparison only charges around £12 per month and in return we get mostly British content and no adverts across their TV, radio, online catch-up and internet platforms.
Without the income from the adverts subscription prices would be even higher. The prermium channels, Sports and Movies have no adverts during the play or film for which you pay a premium price.

do you know i must be getting older or at least becoming wiser £300 to watch sky with the entertainment extra plus your t.v licence of around £145 its just getting a joke time for free sat i think

Freesat is fine - and you get 5 HD channels (one of which is NHK World, a Japanese channel, in English!) Also BBC iPlayer and ITV Player. And the multiscreen BBC red button works, which it doesn't on any of my Freeview units!

If I sign up to a 12 month contract with Sky at, say, £75 (for everything)

Can they legally increase the price?

Surely its a contract, becuase its contractually obliging?

And if they alter the terms of the agreement, doesn't that give the consumer a 'get out' clause?

based on what the various mobile phone operators do, Yes, it would seem they can.

I had Sky for 12 months on a half price code ( £26.00 a month for the full package),when i rang up to cancel they gave me a new deal with 25% off for 12 Months.

That was up this month and i phoned up cancellations,i was informed no more deals for me,pay full package Mr Leach or do with out i was told.Apparently Sky are now playing hard ball with a hard core group of customers ( like me:) ),who look for discounts annually.

I was also told now i have cancelled i will have to go 12 months before i can negotitiate any discounted packages, and that my address is blacklisted meaning nobody else can have any Sky deals from my property for that 12 months,(seems Mr Murdoch is a bit upset:rotfl:).

Anyway i will keep you all updated.Have just had my " where did we go wrong ?" email from Sky filled it in and returned it,so you never know,i am prepared to wait 12 months and watch the footy at the boozer than pay the best part of £70.00.

    I will definitely.

i can see them diverting from this new policy pretty quickly if it does not have the desired effect of increasing their revenue.I expect them to watch and see if crumble before the footy season kicks off in August:rotfl:,so they might be in touch September:).

How do I go about getting one of these?!

*I beleive it is legal too, didnt a publican recently win a court battle against Sky as she was showing UK games from a foreign TV provider.
  • The longer we have been without Sky the less I miss it. I go to my parents house where they have Sky and it is the same rubbish on there year after year.

Freeview and LoveFilm streaming are all I need. iPlayer on the Xbox is also handy. Now paying a lot less each month than we did for Sky.
