can this be done online or in branch only?
    Both.

As an existing FlexAccount holder, if you ring them (someone provided a freephone number ;)), they'll send you the relevant DD/SO switching forms.

Anyone know how this works if you have an existing current account (with a different bank) but don't have ANY direct debits going out of it?

Also, just to get even more complicated, what if you have a current a/c with a different bank (with no DDs) but you also have another (joint) current a/c with that same bank & that one does have DDs?

Could you give your single current a/c details (the one with no DDs) & be eligible? Or does that give Nationwide the capability to determine that you also have a joint account with the other bank....?

And just to make it more complicated still, add into the mix that you're already a Nationwide Flex holder....

    I have 4 current a/cs:

Bank 1: single current a/c. This is genuinely my primary a/c & I pay my wages into it, however it has no DDs at all.
Bank 1: joint current a/c. This has many DDs.

Bank 2: single current a/c. I've never used this, although it may become my primary a/c (i.e. I may begin paying my wages into it).

Bank 3: (Nationwide) single Flex a/c with no DDs.

    Any insight gratefully received!

    cheers

After the trouble we've had with Halifax I'd like top open a Nationwide account to operate as a bil paying account.

My partner is the Nationwide customer but she has just given up work.

Can we switch her sole current account to a Natiowide joint account and still qualify?

See my first post in this thread (DD's and/OR SO's).

Simply set up 2 or 3 standing orders on "Bank 2" (perhaps to savings accounts you have with other institutions), and ask Nationwide to switch these.

Hmm, my Nationwide flex account is certainly not dormant - I pay my salary into there and have about 8 or so DDs/SOs coming out. But my interpretation of the above is I can still set up some "fictitious" SOs in another, little used current accout and have them transferred over for £100. Anyone disagree?

Does the other account get closed down as part of the switching process?
If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...

When I switched to Nationwide a few years ago there is a box on the form that says 'close my old account'. I didnt tick it and they left it open.

I would be surprised if they let existing current account users take advantage of this offer as well if you are already paying in over £1000 to it a month.
  • IMHO the terms are a bit vague about the >1000 bit; I will send a secure message to try find out

Or for quicker turn around fill out the following, I believe:

I have a mortgage with them, so hope thats ok?...

...Once you have received the £100, do you actually need to fund the account at all?
    From the switching form...
    I authorise Nationwide to:
    ...<snip>...
    if I have a Nationwide mortgage, change my payment method to internal transfer;
