I meant not to disregard your opinion but, mostly, to draw a comparison between, say, an old sub-standard helmet picked up for £10 off eBay and an up-to-date helmet purchased at whatever price they go for.
Used helmets are unsafe because the polystyrene is useless if it's been compressed, and it degrades over time anyway.
The most important part of a helmet is fit - a £50 helmet that fits well is likely to offer better protection than a £500 helmet that doesn't.
I suppose what I'm trying to get across is that it's far more complex than just 'spend more money, get better'.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -

Simply the stupidity of buying an expensive toy without the means to keep it on the road.0 -
OP, have you budgeted somewhere for the running costs of your new toy? (Petrol, maintenance etc)0

I dont think he has, spent all his dosh on the bike but left himself with nothing to cover insurance (not that he cant ride it yet), gear etc
I made that assumption too. Desperation to have A Toy seems to have overcome a lot of sense here, which is a shame since the OP did well to save up £2300 at only 17.0
