How did you manage to ride it home without insurance or protective clothing?
I paid a young lad who was my instructor for my (free get on bike 1 hour free tuition) to come and test ride and look at the bike, as he has assess to a van we basically just rolled it inside and took the bike to mine.0 -
Id like to echo bargainbettys reply, re the clothing definitely do not skimp on it. The clothing is your last protection you have when making contact with the road so you need to spend a bit more than these figures, well it depends how you value your life(your choice at end of the day) so I think you ned to adjust your pricing
Helmet: [STRIKE]£80[/STRIKE] I think maybe £300 is more appropriate
Gloves:[STRIKE]£40[/STRIKE] Id say £150 is a much better price to pay
Boots: [STRIKE]£60[/STRIKE] £60 for boots, should be something like £180/£200
Armour: [STRIKE]£180[/STRIKE] Whats the armour for or do you mean jacket
Im not a biker myslef but I know people who are plus there are people on the forums who are bikers and I bet they wouldnt pay £80 for a helmet.0 -
The OP could have used a siblings or a parents ebay account but you would have thought the parents/siblings would have mentioned he was spending too much on the bike and/or not passed the CBT but yes id be interested to know how he bought it.
I never had to pay using paypal. I had to view the bike in person then gave him the cash in hand, that's why i bought the bike as that what was stated in the ad 'no paypal' needed. Also if i had the chance to use paypal i wouldn't since last time when i was selling fifa 11 ultimate team coins i made around about £400 and paypal limited my account for 360 days, i couldn't even withdraw my money.0 -

This^^^ is pretty much spot on. I used to work for Hein Gericke so know the cost of good quality bike gear. Better to be safe than sorry!0 -

Thanks, was a rough guide.
Yes also forgot to say, that Hein Gericke brand is the only 1 i am familiar with due to a friend has some of they're clothing, there are other brands though.0 -
I only rode pillion a few times a month, and I spent £120 on my crash helmet, in a sale. Think of it as insurance for your skull.
DCFC79 has the right kind of prices... you will need a lot more than you are budgeting for. Good waterproof gloves with knuckle-protectors or handle-bar mitts are essential in this current cold wet weather. Regular gloves will not do, as you end up with cold, wet, and most dangerously, numb hands. If you intend to ride every day, you need a jacket with kevlar plates, kevlar boots and waterproof trousers, preferably with kevlar knee, shin and thigh pads.
Jeans and a leather jacket don't cut it for real bikers. If you get really cold, you'll be pleased to know that it is considered perfectly acceptable to wear thick tights under your 'proofs.
Any luck finding a lock up yet? Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
LB moment - March 2006. DFD - 1 June 2012!!! DEBT FREE!
May grocery challenge £45.61/£1200 -

Try searching for a site called sportsbikeshop using google. The prices for full face helmets ranges from £50 to £699. Your friends probably can afford the gucci of the bike world (arai, alpinetstar etc).0 -

Do textile jackets come with built in armour? if so i may not purchase the armour separately.0 -

Hi,
Some do, some dont.... just make sure you get the ones that do. I wont ride without knee, hip, back, elbow and shoulder protection.
I would second the advice for checking out sportsbikeshop, or megamotorcyclestore.
£150 will get you a decent lid, I personally would never go below £100, but its the SHARP rating they get that matters.
If I had to stab at some prices for a new biker, I would say:
Helmet £150
Gloves £40
Boots £100 (because they are a really strange fit, and you need to get ones that are right for you)
Armoured jacket and trousers £200
Frank Thomas are a relatively good budget brand for clothing.
You could do second hand, but NEVER for a lid. I also would never trust the future safety of my noggin to the royal mail. I always buy from a shop (obviously they would have been transported to the shop, but why add in another potential point of damage?)
Good luck! Do you know what sort of price you are looking at for insurance? If not you may be in for a shock!0 -

They are not wrong. They didnt say the prices you stated weren't available, only that you would be a fool to use 'cheap' protective equipment.
Do you not think the full face helmets range FROM £50 TO £699 for a reason. You would need to look around the mid-priced range at least for decent protection, which would be around £300 as the previous poster stated.0
