    It's postage and packaging!

Surely you checked the p&p before bidding. You knew what the charge was. Why did you bid if you didn't agree/think it was reasonable?

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.
  • I agree with some of the above - you can't say you have not got it when you clearly have - but I would complain via feedback - I got ripped too because I assumed (silly me) that the package must have been far bigger than the 50p it cost to send it and in a homemade rubbish envelope and charged me £5!! Did not get anywhere with it but made me feel better leaving negative feedback.
Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw - managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 2016

The price quoted for postage was known before you bid. BUT.. as the seller said it was to be recorded, it should've been sent that way. Contact the seller, as for a couple of quid refund as it wasn't sent as specified. If they respond by saying it was only 68p difference, not £2, THEN point out the £6 difference in actual cost. If he refunds your £2, I'd give him a positive.

If, however, he'd sent it 1st class recorded as he'd specified, then I'd give him a positive straightaway.

. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.

Surely you could roughly guess that the item wasn't going to be £5 to send if it actually only cost 50p! It must have been a small/light item. And I can't see anything wrong with homemade envelopes as long as the item inside is secure and protected.

That's rather the point. I don't mind a couple of extra quid for packing & to cover a listing fee. I didn't (genuinely) know that the postage would be, no similar items recently and sometimes what's fair depends on the effort the seller has gone to with the packing.
I do hope you're telling the truth?

Surely though if you see an item you want, you check the p&p costs, if it seems too high then you walk away. I don't understand why people complain afterwards once they have agreed.

Whatever the item was I'm sure you could guess what the actual p&p costs were going to be.

Afraid not in this instance as explained.

Now i'm curious as to what you bought...
  • Hi ,

I sell things on ebay and I work out my postage and pacaging as follows :

e.g Say for a light weight clothing item say a babies t shirt.

Mail -lite bubble envelope : 72 pence (my cost not inflated)
    Labels x 2 : 4 pence
Petrol to post office (5 miles away 10 mile round trip) : 89 pence ( 500 miles per tank 50 litre tank - 1 litre does about 10 miles)
RM signed for delivery : £1.10

Thus my P& P on the example would be : £2.79 although the stamp was only £1.10.

Do you think my p & p is un reasonable?????

    xx

I wrap my goods in new tissue paper or new bubble wrap, send in a new courier bags or new boxes or new jiffy envelopes (bought off ebay), drive them to the post office 6 mile round trip, and got a feedback about excessive postage charge. Actual postage cost £5.42 recorded 1st class, buyer charged £5.50!!!

This is just my personal opinion but £1.79 over the actual postage for a baby's t shirt would be a little excessive for me. However it would not stop me buying, it would just mean I would bid a lesser amount on it.
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.
