Overcharged on P&P

1st time this has happened to me - just want to check I'm not being unreasonable.
Won an auction P&P at £9 for 1st class recorded, cost clearly stated, fine. Item as arrived 1st class (not recorded) and at a cost of £3! Think I have cause to complain, x3 the postage charge seems to be taking the pee?

I do hope you're telling the truth?

I thought you were allowed to include packing materials and time taken to prepare the items for posting and taking it to the post box in P&P costs, not just the face value of the stamps.0
-
Possibly, but you knew what the charge was when you bid on the item.
When bidding you shoud decide what you want to pay, subtract the stated postage, and bid that amount.
The seller is allwed to add packing and transport expenses to the actual postage cost. Even so, there is no doubt that some sellers quote unreasonable amounts. However, as a buyer you adjust for that in your bid price.
If the charge seems too outrageous don't bid.
Apart from that your only real complaint is that that they used a different method of sending, but recorded delivery is pretty pointless, and they would be the ones out of pocket if you had paid for a trackable delivery and they'd used another type and it hadn't arrived.0 -
This old chestnut
You could try complaining to the seller, but you'll probably find you won't get a lot of backup in this forum
The argument will be that you should have known roughly how much it would cost to post, and complained before buying...
Howver you do have a valid poing that Recorded wasn't used - although that won't account for the £6 difference. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Claim not to have recieved it, that will be the sellers fault for not sending it recorded like you paid for0

The only problem here is that the item wasn't sent recorded.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.0 -
I don't mind paying a couple of quid extra for packing handling etc - I know paypal fees can be painful too. I did adjust my bid accordingly but 3x actual cost is a bit steep - I don't know how much the item weighs before bidding, seller (presumably) does!I do hope you're telling the truth?0

The postage and packaging cost of £9 was clearly stated on the auction listing. By placing a bid you agreed to pay this. The only problem here is that the seller didn't send via recorded delivery as they said they would.
If you're really that bothered ask for your 68p back as realistically that is all you've been overcharged.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

it's a trick used to pay lower fees. When buying an item the P&P is clearly stated and so a buying decison is made based on the total cost to the bidder (i.e. incl P&P) You said that you adjusted your bid to account for the P&P. This is what ever bidder probably did: If the seller had stated actual P&P costs then the final price of the item surely would have been higher but the total cost about the same.
I bought a CD the other day and P&P was £4 and a buy it now price of £0.99. I knew full well that posting a CD without its case + enveloppes etc... would cost far less than this but at £4 + £0.99 the CD was an absolute bargain. No way am I going to complain when the CD's posted and it only has one first class stamp on it!0 -
Strong feelings indeed. I wouldn't neg feedback (I notice someone else has recently for this reason) with this seller. But it seems a bit cheeky.I do hope you're telling the truth?0
