I fail to see how its daft but then I guess you just haven't read it properly?
Nowhere did I say anything specific about giving gifts at a certain point, I was refrencing the posts that don't want to give a gift at all... I know that I have declined invites to baby showers (and weddings) where I was just making up the numbers on the day so that I brought a gift because I would not had ordinarily gone round to visit the baby after the birth as it wasn't a close friend/family member. If you don't want to go, then don't go and if you don't want to buy a gift (at any point) then don't!
I also know how frustrating it is to have to invite those who you don't really want there for the sake of keeping the peace, then they grumble and moan about being there because they didn't want to come. It is easier on all parties if you don't want to come if you politely decline.
Only completely selfish brats EXPECT anything from anybody. The rest of us enjoy giving and do like to receive but are mostly only interested in this from/for people they are close too.
Does that clear it up a bit more?:jBaby Boy born December 2012

Kind of a tamed down stag party. No presents though. Maybe just a trip to the pub....
I suppose its done afterwards as usually just the men go to wet the babies head?:jBaby Boy born December 2012

I was far too sleep deprived to do that! I was just thinking along the lines of another thread - about what a wife could organise for her husband before the birth of their child
IMO - i like the idea of baby showers, my wife organised a cracking one for her sister, but I do agree that I'd prefer to wait for the safe delivery of the baby before giving a present (especially if you want to make it gender specific)0 -

I haven't seen any posts saying that...0 -

What happened to the 70s when girls wore dungarees, played with trucks and wanted to be doctors?
Now they wear nothing but pink and want to be princesses when they grow up. We're going backwards!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Please tell me where you found proper dungarees for little girls! Shopping for my niece is a nightmare trying to spot the few non pink items hidden away in a corner.0
