Also, I have labels and clear nail varnish to label all the rat's nest of appliance cables on my kitchen worktop (cupboards too damp to store them in there) but have sat on my hands for ages. I have such good ideas. I like the ideas of the cables, blossomhill, and I am also working on the way that I get rid of chargers/cables etc when I get rid of the item. Also the manual.

That's the trouble with eg the labels. I think 'if I get round to it, I will do them all and be so efficient. However I have just realised, if I have label and varnish handy, I can just do one at a time as and when. I shall look out the varnish and labels... later!

A good thing about doing them as you use them, as well as it being sorting without the work, is that you'll be able to weed out any randoms that you don't use after a while.

Urgh. I hate it when a house looks worse after you have spent all day doing things that should improve it.

I am sore and achey now, but still considering trying the steam mop before turning to put supper on, i cannot believe we have had one all this time!

I am determined the builder will find an organised house he can start on without having to allot time for stuff we can do to clear his pathway when he comes to survey tomorrow, so i am now going to put the house back together.

I have also decided we probably do not need much of a temporary kitchen arrangement. We have put the guin chests and the freezer the size of a small country in the alloted room, a sink and a cooker and a fridge will fill it to the brim and i can put food in clear plastic boxes, so it can go straight to the tip. In fact, i might have to lose one of the gun chests, because i would like to keep the wm in the house too (alternatively i can keep it in a building out on the farm yard, but its a long and filthy way to trek with washing! Alternatively i can richard the kitchen units and keep them to put in the feed room on the farm yard, for better storage out there. Something for us to think about, certainly.

As the weather's been so weird, I only got round to my 'winter/summer' wardrobe switcheroo last weekend! (Small cottage, only one wardrobe for me and some drawers.) I keep my summer clothes in vac bags under the bed, then at a suitable time I empty the vac bags of their summery skimpies, remove winter clothes from wardrobe and fold them neatly into the vac bags. Summer clothes then go into the wardrobe. It's such a good chance to chuck out stuff! This time, I couldn't understand why the bags were already inflated when I dragged them out from under the bed. Weird. I thought maybe the vac seal had failed. Finally I twigged that when my three cats disappear under the bed for a game of 'chase me over the obstacle course' (or whatever noisy game they play), it's my vac bags their sharp little claws are perforating, argh!!!!!

So, note to self; invest in some plastic lidded crates next time I wander into Wilko or similar. They might even be better than the vac bags as I can get shoes/boots/handbags in, too.

I was ruthless this season and bagged up a few old, but still gorgeous, evening dresses (admittedly they don't fit me any more!) that had happy memories. Going to my favourite charity shop, our local hospice.

And I threw out a lot of makeup that I'd relegated to the 'emergency drawer' in the bathroom. It was stuff that I bought some years ago before I stopped buying anything non-BUAV approved. (Big name stuff, you know, the designer brands that make you take a deep breath when you enter your PIN??) But I felt better for getting rid.

Next, I need to tackle two drawers of old greetings cards. They've all been set aside to recycle into tags or just because I love the person who sent them. Sitting taking up drawer space isn't benefitting anyone and the longer they stay there, the less likely I am to want to cut them up. I think I need to invest in some pretty box files to keep the precious cards from family/friends/husband. And be brutal with the guillotine on the rest!

Now, how to persuade husband to tackle one of our three sheds???? Bribery ;-) ????

Wow, talk about I started something I couldn't finish. I have warned DH that one small task has snowballed into chaos so he has promised to bring me fruit salad!

Well done to everyone who has negotiated something out of the house today.

It seems to do that, snowball into chaos at first. Fruit salad is good. :D

I've decided to keep the basket for the time being. It's in a place now where it seems to "fit", and matches another basket I have. But as I got the blanket box I am going to get rid of a dressing table stool. It's used to hold the printer at the moment in my bedroom. :o

Going back to JoJo's original purpose in this thread, I wonder if teachers could be alert for children of hoarders, not to report to SS but maybe to offer use of the school showers etc

That comes across as a bit creepy but I am sure professionals would know how to word it

I am picturing a local girl we used to see with such greasy hair I'd say to my kids "look she is as bad as the mother" - as an adult I should have wondered if the girl had any choice

Perhaps too often we dismiss them as "just one of those families"

I on the other hand tend to appear happy-go-lucky and I know some people envied me when in fact I was not waving but drowning

Edit

Byatt - any chance you could get all electricals out of the bedroom? They don't belong there

A while back i was talking about the inside of the dining room buffet. I think that is a perfect example of perfectioninsm in the midst of chaos in my house. The base is a different story, dh filled it. But the glasses are groupt together, I did originally have them left to right by when in the evening they would be used, but they did not fit as well, so i settled for just in groups of type together.

I have decided to try and get another shelf made for the buffet. It would solve a lot of problems with dining room storage.....if i can store it and access it easily a lot of stuff mit nopt be richard.

Sounds complicated - can't you try one of those racks that allow stem glasses to be suspended from the existing shelf? Beauty of them is the galsses can't get knocked over

lol! Over on Decluttering 2012, short_bird has got rid of a vintage picnic set. I thought ooooh that sounds nice!! I can't remember the last time I went on a proper picnic!:rotfl:

It had 2 turquoise flasks and avocado coloured plastic plates (in 2 sizes!), cups and saucers. And a widget to keep your salt and pepper in. But I
a) don't have a picnic lifestyle and
b) it didn't sell at the last vintage fair and
c) I don't have a fair planned for the rest of the summer.
Unsure if it will sell in November when I do have a stall at a fair:rotfl:

Blossom, my bedroom is my office also, as I just don't have room elsewhere. I know I keep saying it, but this place is really small. My friend on first seeing it, said, OMG, it's soooooooooooo small. :o

LIR, a very tidy cupboard. :)
