Is it really wrong to be thinking 'I'd love to have been able to root through all the stuff people are getting rid off, there's probably things in there I could have used/might have wanted'?
:rotfl:
lol! Over on Decluttering 2012, short_bird has got rid of a vintage picnic set. I thought ooooh that sounds nice!! I can't remember the last time I went on a proper picnic!:rotfl:
I'm going to make a start on some boxes in my bedroom which have been unsorted since I moved 3 and a half years ago:o. They're mostly full of CDs, CDs out their boxes/ in their boxes/in the wrong boxes, inserts etc. Sometimes after a few beers I have a rummage in them and find something I want to listen to but not often! I'm sure out of the roughly 200 I have I can get rid of at least 100. The annoying thing is, my dvd drive on the pc isn't working so I can't transfer any working ones first, but I can live without them. I CAN!!!
I'm not going to bother matching boxes with their CDs to take to charity, it's more important to get rid of them as quickly as possible so they'll just be binned.
There's a lot of other bits and pieces in the boxes though, cables, screws, bits and bobs. I find getting rid of things like that really hard just in case I ever discover what they're actually for!:o0 -

Me too...:o:rotfl:
When I look at my stuff in CS's I have to stop myself buying it back!:o
Another thing I find, is that if something has "sold" on it, I wonder how I could have missed it! It always seems more enticing.I "stalked" a woman around the recycling centre once, hoping she'd put down what she had in her hand...she did, I looked at it, and then didn't want it anymore! What's that all about?!
LIR, some days it's easier, but it's definitely stirring up the mud at the bottom of this very emotionally damaged me.0 -

:rotfl:Aliasjo....we must be related, I was thinking the same.

.
I went to the charity shop a few weeks ago and picked up a book, i knew i recognised the cover and thought it was on my "wants" list, I soon realised I had infact already read and donated that exact copy several weeks beforeWhoops!

Ok, i hit a stumbling block, a really nice cardboard box that came with some elemis or similar toiletries. Its bright blue and purple and in good condition. Its in the bin but incredibly reluctantly, so thats one of my weaknesses. It was full of medicines and supplements, one of dh's.
Behind dad's boxes i discovered he has a big steam cleaner that needs new pad things, and a steam mop. Both of which i have been toying with buying. Woot.
I have also been through one of my betes noir, the tupperware boxes, full of lids and bases that do not necessarily corespond. Anything without a match has been put aside . Nothing found by the end of the day? They are IN the bin!0 -
Thanks blossomhill
I have cables in a drawer of the pc desk which I think are probably needed, but the ones in my bedroom - well they haven't been used for over 3 years, probably much longer, so I think I'm just going to bin them, they must be obsolete! Ditto the innumerable chargers!:o:o
I just binned a scart lead!!:o I know they're useful but really - I have enough for my needs and if it ever came to it, I'd just have to buy another one!
I've sorted 2 large plastic storage boxes from my bedroom now, one was all CDs/DVDs except for a few bits and bobs. Out of that I've kept about 15 CDs and a pair of good tweezers:) All the compilation CDs have gone except the classical ones, and some of the ones I've kept will go once I've stored the data somewhere else.
The second one was half CDs/junk and half photos, cards from the kids, stuff they did at school when they were younger. I've only kept 5 CDs from that box, but I'm not really up for sorting through memories at the moment so I'll leave that for another day!
So - 2 boxes down, 7 to go! I don't know whether that's a :j or a !!!
eta lostinrates, I have that problem with tupperware boxes too! HOW does it happen?? I've got umpteen lids and about 3 boxes!0 -
Another box done! Keepers - 4 CDs, a zipped wallet full of copies of CDs, and a couple of things I'm struggling to get rid of but really should - 2 Where's Wally books (I don't know why I'm reluctant to get rid of them!) and a letter from DD1 asking if they could move a planned party from somewhere else to here. It makes me laugh because there are all kinds of promises about cleaning the whole house, buying me some booze for it, and joining in with me for the dancing:rotfl:
I think this is a process - some things I can throw immediately in the bin bag, some other things just need a bit more psyching up to.....0 -
Well I have done all the Ironing today, which is something.
And I have put all the washing away, but had to cram the last few clothes into drawers and the wardrobe, which makes me think that my clothes will be next on my list to sort through.
The problem with clothes (And I don't have that many that I wear on a regular basis) is that a lot of my clothes are for when I have lost weight and some are my "fat clothes" :rotfl:.
At the moment I am at an inbetween time when the fat clothes are too big, and the small clothes are still too snug.
So I keep both.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

Wow, talk about I started something I couldn't finish. I have warned DH that one small task has snowballed into chaos so he has promised to bring me fruit salad!
Well done to everyone who has negotiated something out of the house today.0 -

If you are prepared to let some things go and can make the decision keep your very favourite things in the bigger and smaller sizes, that way you have nice things to wear not just lots of things.
Sorry that's a really obvious thing to say.0 -
A quick boast - something I will never throw out, little bear's first report. It is a really good one.
I need to work out how to store these things. I am thinking of using the outsized soap powder boxes (typical hoarder, trying to find uses for things).
I have done some shredding, and have a bulldog clip with some scrap paper in for notes for phone calls etc. Everything I can is going on my google calendar or the (unused!) cat's litter tray I will be keeping as an 'in tray'.
I am hitting a 'fallow' bit at the moment, but I will try not to get too much stuff in, and then attack when I feel more able. And as I am shredding I need to only keep a rational amount of paper for notes in the bulldog clips - junk mail comes in every day. There will always be scrap paper.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0
