  • Perhaps he should have been cast as Jack Reacher!

  • I forgot about the program but am watching it now as I'm sky +sing it on +1.

I don't have rooms that cannot be gone into but my 'piles' can reach halfway up walls etc.

I have been meddling along tackling it tiny bit by tiny but but I realise I need to do something a lot more extreme to get anywhere

Christmas is going to be a major issue for me with lots and lots of 'ins'

I realise I am just throwing my money away buying far far far too many things (of all kinds) to ever get my money's with of use out of them

I felt ever so slightly tearful during the programme. I think part of it was identifying with the hoarders, part of it was sparked by an email I got that (I think) gave some good news but worded it in such a way that it was at best confusing, and at worst insulting. I don't want to go into too much detail though.

I did have a sudden burst of clarity in the hoarding programme, when it occurred to me it would be life-enhancing to get rid of two pieces of storage furniture, and use a cupboard I already have but in a different room. That'll be a job for my next flower day, hopefully before year-end.

I am somewhat worried about the ins for xmas too, but I think I'll do my best to get rid of packaging quickly. Goes off to check opening hours of the recycling centre.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

SJ, I must say for the past month, what with getting things more organised, I haven't wanted to buy things like I used to. I've looked at "things" and thought that's nice, but haven't had that compulsive feeling that I just had to get it, that buying it will somehow make all the difference to my life and it will suddenly be better. I feel much calmer and less stressed.

I've also noticed after culling my elephant haul, that the 3 I now have on the window sill, look just right...I can see them instead of them being hidden with all the others.

WW, the clarity moments are always nice.

BH, yep, he'd certainly be a better choice than Tom!
  • Byatt, I just wanted to say your house looks lovely :) you must feel so wonderful!

Happy Christmas to everyone, I am still trying to sort through the crap and doubtless will be here now I am off work.

  • Inspired by Byatt's pictures and terrified by the Extreme Hoarders programme I am sitting here thinking about the conservatory.

About twice a year I clean it out and for a couple of months it looks lovely.

The problem is in the summer it is boiling (and anything you leave in there gets ruined) and in the winter it is freezing. So what really happens is stuff you don't need goes there, the recycling goes there the parcels and shopping and washing go there. Stuff moves but it is always replaced.

And house plants. they go there too. and thrive! the !!!!!!!s!

I keep thinking how big it is and how much space you could have there.

how nice it would be to sit there.

right the scary hoarding programme is over and I need to go upstairs and go to bed.

    night all xxx

  • Well, I eventually had my long awaited burn up tonight. I therefore have no more unnecessary paperwork, envelopes or other such gumpf. No visiting firemen, either, as the neighbours obviously decided that I wasn't about to set the entire street on fire.

It was quite pleasing, would have spent longer out there, but it was too damp and wet to sit down, and I didn't want to disturb the neighbours by being out the so late, so chucked a load of water over it once it looked as though the papers were little fragments, dumped a lid on top and came indoors.

To find that across the road is having a very, very noisy Christmas party. So I could have continued.

It's so loud, the birds appear to all be awake already - as I'm often up at this time, I can confirm that this is not normal for the local birdies.

I like the idea of a flower day. Makes me think of a day where you can potter around arranging flowers or planting things. Roll on Spring for some of those.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • I think lir that you may have coined a phrase so we will have flower days from now on, where we prune and nuture and let in light and give ourselves space to blossom and grow! So much nicer than decluttering or tackling the hoard days...thank you lir and your autocorrect!

Thank you Buffy, I am touched that I have been able to inspire. :)

Jo-Jo, I don't know if it's primeval, but fire has a way of reaching into our psyche, I know burning papers has a therapeutic effect which shredding alone doesn't have.

Blossom, such a lovely description of a flower day. I was just thinking how when I walk through my living room, instead of feeling small and insignifcant, I actully walk taller and "blossom".

Had some fab news in the post, a really large rebate for council tax on the old home...ssshhhh don't tell the ex...:rotfl::T
  • Another vote here for 'Flower Day' instead on slower day - love it.
Shows the power of language doesn't it, and how transformative it can be to our outlook and thinking.

    Yay Byatt - rebate:j:j:D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
