Byatt, just had a little peek at your photos, what a lovely cottage, I'm very impressed with the effort you've made tidying up.

Yesterday I had a big tidy up before a friend visited, and was very pleased with the result. Today my son brought ALL his work stuff home, and laid it all on the floor of the living room and dining room. He's changing jobs over the holidays, and had to bring everything home with him. I've just got a little path to get from room to room, can't reach the fireplace or the switch for my christmas lights!
Well, I suppose it has to go somewhere, and hopefully it'll only be for a few days. At least my visitor came yesterday :rotfl:

Thanks everyone, you are all so kind. :A

    Hi Granny, :)

GQ, the tree is one I got in Hab!tat's sale back in January 2011, for £5, reduced from something ridiculous like £60. They only had the white one left, it's fibre optic so looks really pretty when dark.

  • :j Well done Byatt very inspiring pictures, your home is beautiful and full of character. Hope you don't mind me saying but your posts seem more positive, like a weight has been lifted.

My dad finally fitted my open fire tonight! Saturday is smoke testing day with the loft hatch open to check no smoke leaks from chimney into the loft. We did a smoke test last week to see what the draw was like (good) and no smoke leaked into my bedroom (above lounge) so fingers crossed loft is ok. Then hopefully Saturday evening I can have my first (small) lit fire.

Shredded some paperwork tonight that had become richard on the hallway console.

    Goodnight all x
  • Well done Byatt it looks lovely :)

After christmas I'm going to sell the gift sets and things I don't need. I'll tackle my clothes and give them to charity or something

Well done Byatt! It looks lovely now, so much space to move and think...

I wonder if I'm the only one thinking your before pic isn't *that* bad - untidy definitely, a bit cluttered, but not what I'd call real hoarding, so good job getting it sorted before it got to that point!

I look around my lounge and it's got a bit more clear carpet space than in your picture, but there are things piled up on the table almost to the ceiling in one corner, as well as a lower pile of boxes taking up perhaps a quarter of the room that should be open space. Not even sure what's in the bottom storage box, apart from a vague idea that some kitchen stuff went in there when we had to clear it for the kitchen floor to be sorted over a year ago... I'd pull it out and sort through it if I could face lifting the other heavy boxes off it...
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

deckogecko, no I don't mind you saying that. :) Thank you for noticing.

babyshoes, the before pic only shows part of the room, I haven't shown the kitchen or utility/bathroom or the bedroom. But I know what you mean, I'm not a full blown hoarder, but I was on the way. Not only that, the beginnings of hoarding often come under the umbrella of well, it's not that bad. I showed my counsellor the full pictures and her reaction told me it was bad. I hoped she would say, well, it's not that bad.

:) Wow, Byatt, a £5 tree. I find those fibre optic ones hypnotic and can't keep my eyes off them, much to the annoyance of one of my friends when I keeping wandering off track to ogle the tree. Well, I don't get out much.:p

Have taken a bag to the c.s. and am in the process of defrosting my huge freezer (only joking, it's a tabletop one). Hauling a few things out to be eaten this weekend. Amazes me how one can lose things in such a small appliance, goodness knows how people with proper-sized ones manage.

I suspect I shall take an inventory and stick it on the door. Think I'm good for cheese til June 2013. Well, it was a BOGOF and £2 off till spit, so was bargainous.

Will be decluttering a few cards and gifts to pals over the course of the weekend which will free up a little drawer space and turning some other stuff into cake to share as well.

Do people plan to do much decluttering over the extended holiday period or will it be all hands on deck for the feasting? I always notice that the bottle banks are full up after Crimble.

OK, going off to have a Conversation about a jamjar. It's a particularly nice jamjar, octagonal, and I may decided to keep it. Or I may not. Hence the Conversation.

You may imagine me like Hamlet, holding a [STRIKE]skull[/STRIKE] err jamjar at arm's length and doing a speech.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Grey queen, we are trying to get the dining room done (we have dragged it out, but barely spent half an hour in there today) and our bedroom which still involves too much dericharding, before the end of the weekend, so that we are maintaining not striving over the break.

However, dh has man flu, so now I have caught a cold ;) which might linger as I am not so robust in health. If we have a flower day after Christmas I might suggest we start on the box room.
