I think I better join here if you will have me
This is totally pathetic but I have a dilemma I need help with... Duvet sets for my room.
Q. How many sets do I actually *need*?
I am thinking 2, but I have 3.
Here is my dilemma... One set was very expensive and is lovely quality so I should keep that one. One is very pretty and girlie and I love it, so I should keep that one. One is cream and goes with everything, inc the curtains, so I should keep that one too.
*sigh*0 -
I think three is a good number. It's not too many IMO, incase there is bad weather for drying or a wm or dryer breakdown.

I think 3 is a good number.
You sound like you only really like one of them though so maybe get rid of the cream one that goes with everything in the room but you don't sound like you love, the other you make it sound like you're only keeping it because it was expensive and it's good quality. If you don't like it replace it when you can with things you love. An inexpensive set that you love and will make you smile whenever you see it is worth more than an expensive set that you're not fond of (I'm probably in the minority with that view though).0 -

I do love the expensive one - it's very pretty and feels lovely against the skin
Storage is an issue in my little house so I think I will get rid of the cream one. In fact, thinking aloud, I might use it to double line my door curtain
OR, make a blind for the bathroom as there is nothing up at the window there...
hahaha! I knew I would find a way of not throwing something out :rotfl:
I am a hopeless case!0 -
I don't think you're a hopeless case it just kind of sounds like you're looking for a reason to get rid of something that isn't really a problem and you don't really need to get rid of.
Your door curtain almost certainly doesn't need to be double lined. If you want to keep the thing keep it, if you want to get rid, get rid but you don't need to justify your decision either way. And if you're not going to make the blind or line the door curtain in the next few days then please don't keep the stuff for that purpose as then it will become clutter.0 -
Thanks BH and Alec for posts, they definitely give me something to think about. Something I do with them is similar to my behavious when around family, one friend particularly reminds me very much of my mother, both being controlling & manipulative. I therefore don't speak up as I would with someone else. Anyway, it's not a major issue in the scheme of things, I just don't like myself much after being around them as I feel so frustrated and my negatives seem to be highlighted rather than diminished.
Fruball, I don't think 3 sets are excessive at all. I probably have 4 now. Each one I love and sets the room, even though they are very different. In fact, just realised my duvet sets probably reflect the real me more than anything else I have, along with my PJ's...:D0 -
Three sounds perfect to me. One on, one in the wash, one in the drawer0

Ladies (are we all birds?). I had a very successful incident this morning. I went to put on my sunglasses (pfft has anyone sent he weather in the Sw today?) and they were loose. I removed them, looked at the fittings on the side and saw they were irreparable, so......I threw them a way.
No 'maybe dh will fix them'. (they weren't fixable) no picking out sparkly bits for craft projects or trying to put them on a branch of a tree....I threw them out.0 -

Have I missed seeing thrifty around lately? You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
I have 3 duvet covers, 2 which are identical and which I got for free and one which is brushed cotton and a cast-off from Mum's and which is delightfully-snuggly at this time of year and I shall put it on the bed at the weekend.
3 seems a modest and managable amount but I have room to keep them and don't need the space for anything else. I'll let natural attrition take them down to just 2 or perhaps even 1.
But re-purposing quilts is good, too, that's a lot of useful fabric in there.
Yesterday afternoon I changed my printer's cartridge and put the old one into the wrapper, taped it up and had it into the cancer charity's recycling bin within the hour. There was a time when it would have floated about the premises for weeks, or gone in my bag and been carried about for days.
I've also finished scanning the receipts and warranties from one folder (the bigger stuff) and found a few bits and bobs which have become redundant now so they'll be joining the recycling bin and the shredder, depending on identifying factors.
Does anyone else find themselves a bit skittish when they get offered free stuff when out and about (or additional stuff when you purchase something)? Or perhaps that's me being a little odd, wouldn't be the first time.............:rotfl:
I guess it's because I'm conscious of decluttering at home and getting the recycling off the premises and really don't want any extra stuff on the premises.
I went to an Odeon cinema with a pal 2-3 weeks ago and got offered their membership card for no more than I'd have been paying as a non-member. Watched the film, dumped the card and leaflet beside the pooter and went to register it the following day and then.....just......paused.
OK, if I activated this card, I could get a discount but the downside would be that I'd have an extra piece of plastic in my life which I'd realistically have to carry in my wallet to ensure that it was with me when I wanted it. How often do I got to the cinema, anyway? Probably not more than once a year. How often do I go to the Odeon rather than A.N. Other cinema? Every 2 years or even less.
Soooo, to save about £1 (or less) a year, I get to carry a bit of plastic around, straining the boundaries of my wallet and will probably be bombarded with emails by Odeon. So, I didn't do it. And I'm pretty happy about that.
Years ago, a pal told me to guard my email address as carefully as my terrestrial address to avoid being bombarded with carp, and it's good advice. Or use a throwaway freebie one when registering for freebies. Digital clutter isn't going to trip you up but it still gets in the way of other things.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
