Hoarding...not just on TV

My car is definitely an extension of my space. The back seat is usually full of bulk purchases from Costco as we don't have space to store the very cheap, useful things like tins, sugar or the current resident, toilet paper! The boot is full of cat litter as it is also cheaper to buy in bulk when on special offer. On top of that, it is just full of random stuff. There are a few 'emergency' bits in there somewhere, but if I broke down I would be unpacking all sorts of things to find them!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

Well I've emerged from the shed, it is actually in almost new condition because we've hardly been in it having bought it about 12 years ago, stuffed it full of junk and shut the door (didn't someone's uncle earlier on the thread do this too?)
And in it I found the roots of my hoarding, a large turned wooden bowl and I can hear myself from 12 years ago saying "but someone made this" when I was only asked for 50p for it at a jumble sale - well sorry unknown-maker, it's going on the bonfire if not too damp
I intend to take out shares in white spirit, having found the mother lode
I now have a tidy shed, tidy but full, with about 10 large objects for another day, mainly pet cages
I did find one mystery item; a plastic crate full of bathroom stuff???? Can only think darling offspring was praised for tidying bathroom one day but in fact had stuffed half of bathroom into a crate and hidden it in the shed - I was tempted to think "oh well if we haven't missed it it can go in the bin" but then I noticed a silver necklace I was looking for only this week so had to go through it
The real gain was I tidied outside the shed too and can now use the side access to the house - patio is full of half rotted old wood (stuff I worked on dismantling yesterday) so can this can now leave via a civilised route rather than through the house. I have also posted some items on Gumtee now I can let people view them without entering the house, so win, win, thank goodness for inspirational sunshine! You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
Why do people never find something truly useful [to me] - like, say, an electroacoustic or electric guitar, a double bass, harmonica, a cello bow or something like that?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. Antoine de Saint-Exupery French writer (1900 - 1944)

I am not doing any decluttering (apart from the men in the family to the cinema) but I am greatly enjoying the posts, with pictures of lovely quilts, vacuuming the car in the pub car park, mushrooms growing in the footwell, and lost harmonicas. What a rich tapestry of life is on display in this thread.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I thought you said vaccing the pub car park. It made me think of a house I love love love just up the coast from here (another 1960's house but loads bigger than mine) we drove past one day and I saw the owner cleaning the drive with her henry hoover. DH said "oh god that house is meant for you!"0 -
I sorted through and cleaned the bathroom cabinet (couldn't face DS room - that is for another day). I threw away some stuff that has been cluttering it up for years - bleach for hair that would be dangerous to use, various toiletries bought for me (body scrub which I hate to use, those nylon doofer ball things you're supposed to use in the shower, some foot gel,) a load of old toothbrushes and razors that were rusty
Why were they all there? Makes no sense. This means that I can fit a hoard of shampoos actually in the cupboard and not on the floor (i buy shampoo and conditioner in the pound shop but don't go often so stock up when I do). I also had a wicker basket at the end of the bath on a shelf which held shampoo etc currently in use - when I looked closely it was MINGING  In the bin - not to be replaced.
This is progress.:TI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I love that when you can get rid of a storage container as you realise it is just adding to the clutter.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
