When I started declutting the house I was 4 stone heavier than I am now and we were £25k in debt. In the time it took to declutter then organise the house we got rid of the debt, I lost 3 of the 4 stone and DH lost 5 stone. By the time we'd got round to decorating the newly decluttered house we'd saved another £12k to pay for a new car. That's just less than a 5 year turn around. So yes, when the motivation kicks in and things start moving then in impacts on all aspects of life, not just the one you start focusing on.
Wow - that is a brilliant story to read this morning.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
FWIW, the picture quality on a CRT is rubbish compared to a flat screen. And any junk like that would be got rid of if it appeared in Tightfisted Towers. There's a reason why they are being given away for nothing.
The nurse is about to come and the place looks respectable. I'm really anxious, but trying hard to hide it. It's not working very well, though.
You'd be surprised how much money you save when not buying food that is left uneaten because it's being stored, or clothes that are unworn or stuff for the house that's unnecessary. And if you don't have nine packets of biscuits, you can't eat them when you CBA to cook for yourself.....I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

I agree, and very inspiring. :T I am trying to defat too. Love the word defat! Better than dieting.Jojo_the_Tightfisted wrote: »FWIW, the picture quality on a CRT is rubbish compared to a flat screen. Hope all goes well Jo-Jo. And another excellent insight about food and clothes and stuff in general. I've wasted food either, because I've forgotten it's there and can't see it in all the clutter or feel so bad that I end up buying comfort food, which only comforts for about 2 seconds and then I feel bad again.0 -
I agree with you Jojo. It's all part of the knock on effect. When you think about things before you buy them and start to have things that you like and things that you need about the place then you become more choosy, being more choosy means shopping less. Shopping less means using what you have and using what you have means doing more, making the most of what you have and consuming less.
It's all about being aware and living here and now rather than in the past or in a number of possible futures (the future where food is scarce, the future where I am a lady about town with lots of hobbies and things to do, the future where I can't buy something because the banks have collapsed or I have no money...). There is a massive difference between being prudent and putting money aside for a rainy day or old age and stockpiling so much you need a gun to protect it all.0 -
Jojo,
Do you mind me asking what happened to your mum in the end?
Feel free to ignore, if you wish.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Haven't heard from Her since. So She doesn't seem that keen to keep in touch when she can't get something from me.
My sister says she'll get in touch when she hears something via the favoured brother. But my sister's keeping fairly clear as when she replaced the nasty chipped, stained and mismatched crockery she threw away with a brand new quite good quality set (having agreed it with Her in advance), there was a tiny green leaf in the floral pattern. So rather than say thank you, She wailed 'It's GREEN. There's GREEN on it. I HATE GREEN'. Like plants don't have green bits.

The nurse has been.
Turns out doing your own injections doesn't hurt. :j
Just got to wait for any side effects to show up - but I have noticed, for once in my life, I've been prescribed something that doesn't list weight gain and facial hair growth as a common side effect :whistle:I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
While tidying up the bedroom today I decided it would make sense to keep the hedgehog feeding bowl on the bookself with the book on hedgehog care ... I have never seen a hedgehog in my garden ... but have had the kit to care for one for maybe 8-10 years ... you will be reassured to know ... if one chances by ... I am ready!
Aspirational hedgehog rescuer? You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

Everything crossed fo you Jojo re side effects, and that you need a minimum does for max side effect. Good news for me today at Big Guns London Hospital is that I can reduce my metho dose and we'll see what happens, Hopefully a reduction on fatigue, that's what and no rise in original symptoms!I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
been working on my recipe folders this week..its a long job and not creating that much space but I have tried to be good and empty some files..most I have at least doubles of in cookery books etc so it makes sense to sling the printed/magazine versions away
Magazines/books/paperwork is certainly my downfall I've realised, although I have been better since I got my kindle
Will catch up with you all properly when DS3 goes back to school *hopefully* monday XX0 -

I have loadsa hedgehogs, but do not see them that often. Do you think you might have any? Do you ever see squished ones on roads in your area?
The thing is, the hedge hog doesn't know there is a nice bowl waiting for it...
I am told hedge hogs have always liked it here, but when they gave birth inside my house last yearit's probably because they had Sussex where the cat food was (I thought the cats were eating huge amounts
).
I feed feral cats and hedgehogs, and so it's the same stuff for both really. They coexist with no problems. And ATM, not sure if they are not both using a dog kennel I put out there and keep well bedded with straw.0
