Elona sorry to hear your news but at least treatment will be targeted for the right things as the results start to emerge must be such a worry for you XX

On the decluttering front my next project is to tackle my hoard of DS3's clothes  Being a bit fixed in his ways due to his autism he refuses to part with 'stuff' worse than me :D So I have to shuffle things out and hope he doesn't notice but he knows every single fleece he has ever owned *yes it's that bad* so we compromised and said I will make him a quilt with the ones that don't fit anymore but he insists on keeping..it's going to take me a while to get anything actually out the door but we are making progress and I'm really happy that its starting to show in most rooms :j

Blossom well done on the weight loss!

One thing I love about library books is that I don't have to store them when I've finished with them. I can sometimes be a bit obsessive about getting them outta here that same day or the day after at the latest.

I love library books too, especially for DH as he has real trouble letting go of books.

More {{hugs}} elona, hope you get a definitive diagnosis soon so you can focus on treatment rather than worrying about more tests.

Elona - I hope your daughter (and you!) get an answer soon.

Happy here as "stuff" went out to a jumble sale yesterday (three carrier bags of books etc)

  • Elona - big big hugs

Just about to do a AF order.

Not doing too bad in getting stuff out. Now need to beat my conviction that there will never, ever be as good a deal as x again and must order a shedload. Or that it will be ages before I need to order from x again so while I am there, to make the shipping worthwhile, I need to order a shedload (can you tell I do most of my shopping on line)

Also determined to use some stuff up before I throw it out. Not sure that it is entirely healthy, but the puzzle book stash is a shadow of itself and I got rid of all the ones I wouldn't do. So that is something.

    hugs to all

I was sorely tempted by a greenhouse myself but managed to pull back before committing to a big purchase, on the grounds that they require a lot of work and I'm not willing to run up and down to my lottie constantly. This week, I'm keeping someone else's lottie greenhouse tommies going for a week whilst they are on holiday and it's a reminder why I didn't get my own. Such a relief to find out before rather than after I'd got one.

After all, you can buy a lot of tomatoes for the price of a halfway decent greenhouse............:rotfl:

I agree, I'd never have a greenhouse on the allotment for exactly the reasons you mention. An old bed frame covered with environmesh worked perfectly well for the tomatoes there! But now the allotment is going I'm going to be growing more intesively in the garden and having a greenhouse a few yards from the back door is a lot more convenient. I do have a full height wall house, like a slice of greenhouse pinned to the wall, but it's getting old and the polycarbonate is getting very brittle and milky. A 6' x 8' greenhouse would let me extend the growing season quite considerably at both ends, not to mention giving me somewhere warm and dry to do potting etc. I've taken over my DD's Wendy house as a shed but I can only stand up under the ridge so it will be for storage only, not working in. Also the garden soil is a bit crap compared to the allotment soil and though I'll obviously work on improving it over the next year or so I'm going to need to move into container gardening for a bit and a greenhouse would be great for that.

So what am I going to do on the de-hoarding front today? Err.,...I don't know. I think i'll be doing well if I can parcel up the "highly useful" boxes from the AF order and get them in the recycling tbh. I do like boxes, especially if they're all the same matching sizes and fit exactly into other boxes .....

    Big hugs for elona (((hugs)))
    Val.
  • I agree about the greenhouse thing too. It's an aspirational thing for me. Every member of my family is really into gardening and they all grow food which is great, I have plenty of time and plenty of space to grow stuff here but I just can't see myself actually doing it. But still I have plans for veg beds and greenhouses scattered around. I rationalise it in the same was as you GQ - I could buy a ton of tomatoes for that amount, or I could never eat a tomato again and save even more money!

Same with jam, people keep telling me there's "no excuse" for not making my own jam. Well I beg to differ. I don't eat much jam so if I spend a couple of quid on a jar once a year I don't think I'm missing out all that much... But the whole "I could do that" is still there from time to time.
  • alec eiffel - if you cannot use home grown fruit then it costs more to make jam than to buy it. I did the sums. Actually I think it may be more cost effective to buy the dratted stuff than make it even if you do grow your own - I use the cheapo mixed fruit saver/value/basics for when little bear demands jam sandwiches and I rarely use it any other time.

Didn't get AF order as I decided that there wasn't enough on it to be worth it for me. Working on getting less in.

    hugs to all!

  • Thanks sybil, I do wonder what the tipping point is before you get a balance with faff, taste, time and expense when it comes to making certain things. I buy those little teeny tiny pots of jam. They're 4 for £1 at the supermarket and it means I can have 4 different flavours and not get bored. Even though the price per kilo is super expensive I use it all, there's no waste and I feel that I get value for money and that's all that matters!

I've been reading a book from the library all about the pantry this week, it's a fab book and has made me think - what do I use the pantry for and what do I want it to do? That's really helped to cut down the things I think I should have in so I hope it'll reduce the amount of stuff I buy too.

Lol val I have the same problem with AF boxes :o
Been trying to sort out my sewing pile not very successfully, but have a request from ds3's school for some buttons and bits so I can send them some stuff in tomorrow.

That leaves me with 4 black sacks full of ds3's clothes he wants to keep  thinking caps on for how to repurpose about 30 pairs of camo trousers!!!
