The cashmere kitten cushion has been noticed. Currently my eldest cat has possession of it. He's big and fat and has a huge shaggy coat two inches thick so he's not actually in need of any cosy beds or blankets, he carries his own around with him. But there he lies in the evening sunbeams absolutely pulsating with heat while the skinny little kitten-cat is curled up as tightly as possible on the floor.

  • Thanks for your kind words, guys. The odd rogue neighbour is one thing, but it feels like the entire neighbourhood is auditioning for the new series of 'Shameless'. :(

Anyway, after the electrician took down the lights, he told me that the dodgy light outside the kitchen was now broken and that if I replaced it then he'd put it up.

As far as he was concerned, he took down one light and he had to put one up - it didn't have to be the same light.

This gives me an excuse to go shopping - one new dusk to dawn, motion sensitive security light and a new one for the front door is needed too.

The front door light takes 21W 4 pin D lamps. 21W. 4 pin. Not the usual 16W, 24W or 32W 2 pin D lamps that most DIY warehouses sell.

I have to make special trips to Tool Station to buy them in bulk.

I can buy a new more 'standard' lamp for the front door.

    Today, I have

lugged the denim scraps and hessian to BHF along with a signed copy of a Doctor Who book (from the days of Tom Baker) and a Kermit the Frog alarm clock from when the Muppets were cool the first time around. They were both around 30 years old.

I've posted junk mail back to sender

Posted the sheet music to the local music school

Taken the broken security light to the local dump

Taken a small collection of batteries to a recycling bin

and collected a watch after it needed a battery replacing.

I haven't done a stroke of housework, though. Ah well.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Can't declutter and do housework too - it's one or the other for us.

sybil, my knee is a lit better today thank you.

Ginger, sorry didn't mean to minmise your housing conditions.:o

Housework and decluttering?? You mean I'm meant to both?:o:rotfl:

Just spent a few happy hours watching a deer, watching me, in the garden of the house sitting gig I'm doing...it's right on the edge of countryside, but it's been resting, eating and drinking from the pond, and daintily walking around the very large garden. The owners will be so envious.
  • Just popped in to say how well everyone seems to be doing. Carry on the good work!

    That's a relief.

I've finished stitching a new lanyard. As I don't like the feeling of being branded, I prefer plain 'un-logo'ed' ones and with work and my new college course, I've now got two sets of ID.

Rather than have two sets in my bag, I've got both sets on the one plain (turquoise ) lanyard which I can swap round when I need to.

At least I haven't just been sitting in front of a computer screen since I got home this afternoon. :D

:rotfl: :T Yay, my kind of person!

Not much out so far but 200L of heating oil and a truck and trailer load of wood in from freegle - that's my heating for the winter sorted :T

Now to redress the balance I must freegle / cs lots as I always feel guilty for getting good stuff off freegle.

Tomorrow may be busy decluttering :o
  • We just got hit by a flash downpour. It was so strong that I think, where it came through the kitchen window, a solitary glass sitting in the sink smashed whilst still standing upright.

I've looked for hailstones, someway the cat could have demolished it, but nothing. It must have been the rain.

In any case, it's been safely binned, the floor mopped, the inside of the windows squeegeed (is that a word?) and small Idiot Cat has been getting himself acquainted with a clockwork mouse I brought home with me today. :D

I was very good today. Instead of buying a bow for the cello, I took that money and trailed around some independent carpet retailers in search of offcuts. On the third one, I hit gold. A lovely salesman who rummaged round the back and came out with a pretty much perfect colour, good quality offcut that, thanks to my own awesomeness in measuring things, fits absolutely perfectly. And for just £39, too!

So, as of this weekend, if not earlier, I shall have carpet on the landing. Warm, soft and lovely, instead of the bare hardboard there has been since I moved in. Plus the bit of trimming that will need to be done will release a piece large enough to be quickly bound and placed at the front door - or, if binding is too much like hard work :), can go in the cupboard under the stairs and thereby cover the only bit of bare concrete left downstairs.

OK, so my bedroom is still left with bare boards, but I now know exactly where I am going to go if I ever get the money together to carpet that room.

And here is the pizza boy!!!! Yay, junk food again!!!!

Woke up early so having a cuppa, unloaded and reloaded dishwasher and put a small lamb joint in casserole with mushrooms and carrots.

More work is being done in bathroom today so want to make a start on things. Turns out electrics (done by previous owner) were unsafe so got things done properly. DD is packing ready to go to uni at weekend so decluttered toiletries etc for her to take.

Huge cardboard boxes have now gone and hopefully by next week sometime the bathroom will be finished and done properly.

Daughter is responding to antibiotics etc and in much less pain but still waiting for scan etc on kidneys. Going in this afternoon to hand in clean pjs and tops and trousers and hoping to hear more when I phone late morning. Her sister is coming home for weekend to see her so hope that cheers her up. Trying to be flexible so we can go to hospital if needed and cook things in advance that just needs reheated.

    Hugs to all
