It's not the kind of attic that's just used for dumping things though, I use part of it for prep work for my crafting and there's a fair bit of coming and going in it. Also it's not just a question of bringing things down from there to throw out, there's several things that should quite legitimately be stored up there anyway except I need to make room for them, also there's things up there that I'd like to find and bring down into circulation in the house so I can throw out the ones that are in use atm. It's also not just the sort of attic which you go up to a couple of times a year, it has a big stable Ramsay ladder so very easy to trot up and down several times a day. I've even been known to dry laundry beneath the Velux windows, it's so handy.

Ah, I see. I think I want your attic... It will get done, just keep nibbling at it. It might help you to take a photo of it now so you can see the progress as you make it?

And Jojo and Byatt, you are definitely well liked - and bear in mind that you are liked by people who don't have to like you IYKWIM ......

    Hear, hear!

& thank you, Jojo, will be singing that for days ;-)

Managed to get Errant Husband to take his boxes, took 4 books back to mum, my hand held mixer broke this morning, I told mum & she went to the cupboard & gave me another (I was standing there thinking, oh dear, this is why we hoard, somethings do come in handy!), I also got an orchid & some money & 2 birthday cards. Will take birthday cards into work for the children when we go back, & put money towards needed walking boots; & will discard horrible boots from last year, & 1 other pair of footwear...

I have had that problem with eBay before and the only way I got around it was by clearing cookies and internet history then close down the browser and going back in.

eBay do seem to have free listing every 2 to 4 weeks so there will be another one here soon if you don't get it all listed.

Thanks Katep23, I have just finished, all 40 items listed. The trouble with waiting for another free weekend is that I'll forget (AKA put it off) again. You guys have given me the encouragement I needed to get on with it this weekend so I just wanted to get it all on. Sensible starting prices too (I think) as I want it to go NOT to make money out of it (but can't bear to throw it away). So fingers crossed - anything left will be going to the CS ... probably!

  • Morning Fellow De-Richarders!

So far today I have dropped old pillows and quilts to the local vet (they were very pleased with the donation), then took 2 black sacks of clothes (some still with the labels and price tags on) to a charity shop, along with a few bits like an Easiyo set including instruction booklet, some lanterns and some cutlery.

The clothes were only sorted out yesterday, having taken on board the idea of the ASPIRATIONAL ME, who is slim, fashionable etc when actualy the real me is NOT!
Why on earth was I keeping size 12 jeans when I am struggling to get into size 16? :o By the time I DO get to wear a size 12 again (one day.......), I will want a new pair, not some that I haven't worn for 10 years!

I now have an empty wardrobe, :Twhich I will start re-filling when I have finally decided which of the 4 black, 5 purple, 3 red and 2 navy jumpers I will keep:o. I could give the same quantities for t-shirts.

My work clothes are already sorted out, washed, ironed and are ready to put away. :D

My next plan of action today is to put my camping stuff and the cat basket back up in the loft. I now have less camping stuff than a week ago... I stayed with my sister for a few days last week and chose to take and use my tent, so that I had an escape/sanctuary if I needed it. When I came home again, I left the tent for her oldest children to keep (all were very happy about this as it sleeps 4 people). So here is the real confession... I now only have 2 tents (each sleep 4 people) instead of 3! Not a real problem until I explain that I live by myself (apart from the cat who also stayed in the tent with me at my sister's) and have no kids, so why did I have 3 in the first place:o? Well, I REALLY like camping and they were BARGAINS, honest!:rotfl: I AM going to keep both of them however as occasionally I manage to persuade a friend to come with me and she always wants her own space, that she keeps incredibly tidy (a bit OCD) while I think camping should be fun, messy and dirty!

Anyway, off I pop to climb the loft ladder a number of times.

Hugs to everyone and well done on EVERY achievement, no matter how tiny, as someone said earlier, you can only eat the whole elephant one bite at a time!

Well, I am off to the dr later, to admit to my hoarding...:(

I am not coping but pretend I am. Sometimes pretending works and of course I have to get out into the real world to earn a crust, but with the latest with my sister, well, I am crashing and burning.

Hope I don't become incoherent with crying. :o

Jetty, I know you've listed now, but be careful you charge enough postage and watch out for the charges once sold by fleabay and PP. Sometimes it pays just to hand them over to the CS...

Kate, thank you, just saw your post...:A

    byatt,

That's great that you are admitting the hoarding to your GP. Let us know how you get on. It will help a lot of people on the thread to hear of your experiences, and maybe give one or two the courage to do similar in the future. (But don't feel you MUST share with us if it is too raw and you'd prefer not to). Good luck, we'll be thinking of you.

  • I must not use "I am a hoarder" to become my excuse

    I am a hoarder

But today I must recognise that I am also a very lazy person who had a nice tidy hall last week ... but because I have been lazy this weekend I have had to make excuses to a friend so they don't visit today, as they wouldn't be able to squeeze in the front door. And I couldn't give a lift to another because I had refilled my tidied car with carp
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow
  • We had a very successful weekend decluttering. Only managed to tackle DDs room, but tackle it we did :).

Everything (apart from her wardrobe) was disassembled, moved, cleaned and reassembled or got rid of as necessary. Every inch of carpet vacummed and walls scrubbed down.

We did have to do a trip to Ikea to buy more storage, however I did only buy what was on my shopping list - avoiding the usual candles/t-towels/pretty things that usually find there way into my basket.

I lost count of how many things we got rid of, but it was at least 4 bin bags full of rubbish, and 2 large boxes of toys that will be carbooted when weather permits.
It looks fabulous in her room now with lots of clear floor space and storage, it should be easier to keep tidy and clean.

Today I have taken 4 ebay parcels to the post office and put a further 2 things onto ebay.

    Wow, molly, that's impressive.

And for anyone else feeling guilty for lack of progress, you can join my no-time-for-decluttering-today club. I've run out of quick decluttering jobs so can't do a whizz around to make me feel better.

    PS byatt,

If it helps, you could take some photos of your hoarding in with you (say on your mobile, if you have one)
