I have a kindle and love it. The books I'm getting rid of are ones that were given as presents and I'm not likely to want to read.

Kindles hold hundreds of books and I download them from a website where they're free.

I still struggle parting with books and have a lot upstairs but I'm pleased that I've got rid of loads lately.

I will pour the wine away, when we've finished painting the lounge (it's all in the shed at the moment)

Next thing to do is sort the cupboard under the sink out, there is so much stuff in there it's untrue. I think I'll get it all out and take a picture and post it - watch this space :rotfl:

    Just wondering

How long should you keep payslips for?

I've just been told I'm being made redundant in October and wondered how much longer I should have to hold on to them (I'm going to retire as I'm 63)

Has anybody any ideas of what to do with half a dozen bottles of sparkling wine that's gone flat?
I bet it works as well as beer in a beer trap for slugs

I keep mine til the end of the financial year, when I get my P60. I then shred the year's payslips, as all the info is in the P60.
I keep the P60 for 7 years with other accounts/tax stuff.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

    I've been Money Tipped!
For the first time in nearly a decade I reached the cupboard which I used as a drinks cupboard. We have a dozen bottles or so of wine/champagne/fake fizz. They range from some Gala fizz which I may try to clean brass up to some rather nice Talisker - OH used to work where at Christmas they had bottles as prizes, from cherry Lambrini to an apparently v good Cabernet Sauvignon. OH and I don't (or rather, didn't drink) but darling father likes a drink and is quite happy. OH went to the tip today and it took him over fifteen minutes to get rid of the empties, and it isn't that long since he went last.

I am thinking of getting rid of the BIG linen press and instead using the quite moderately sized drinks cabinet to use for storing pillow cases and towels. Everything else can either go or find another home. It will make for a much better space and I don't think it will affect the storage capacity too much, not when I have got rid of the deadwood.

On a more sombre note - I suspect I have thrown out darling father's suitcase. I think I got a bit giddy. Sigh.

Weirdly, I've got two suitcases and a laptop bag damp dusted and drying for the charity shop - they came from on top of the shelves and wardrobe.

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions about men in vans and such.

Yes, the local tip treats any van as trade waste. They require any van or car with a trailer to pay for a licence before they present themselves down there.

Any Junk seems to do a similar job but seem pricey for large loads - it might be cheaper getting a skip :o

I need to sort out the stuff and, perhaps, collapse it down further.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Nothing has left the house as usual on the weekend, was working and last thing I can think of when I get in is the 'stuff'

    Payslips:
I think it would be prudent to keep them for a couple of years longer - maybe 8 rather than 6? - if you had more than one job during a tax year given the current propensity for Things To Go Wrong At The Tax Office.

But then again, I always have copies of passports and tickets Just In Case. Never needed them (knocks on wood) but you never know:rotfl:
