  • Passed big bag of assorted clothes to my sister today for her children, managed not to bring anything home from my parents' :-) !

I did ask mum for a spare teapot, but she only could locate 1 teapot & uses it. I did say well done for getting rid of the rest, but she suspects she just hasn't unpacked them since they moved. (I could see a decorative teapot on top of the cupboard though.)

Has anyone tried these hippobags? http://www.hippobag.co.uk/
You can get the bags from DIY stores like B&Q.

We have had a very successfull weekend on the de-hoarding front :j
    OUT
    - Shredded a bin bag full of documents and old cheque books.
    - 2 large bags of general rubbish
    - 1 large bag of cardboard boxes and packaging
    - 1 bag of paper recycling
    - This morning another bag of charity shop stuff taken in, a pair of shoes recycled and a large ebay parcel posted.
    - I have put 2 things on gumtree to "test the waters" as I have never used it before

The office/study/spare room is looking fantastic - We have almost cleared everything off the floor and desk :), but this does mean I can see how disgustingly dusty everything is :o

I was speaking to someone last week who is moving abroad in a few months and has basically sold or got rid of nearly everything he owns. He is going to the middle east for his job so taking his "stuff" with him is not an option and his house is being rented out. So everything must go, he said how liberating it was to get rid of things and felt that much of his possessions were really unnecessary.

okay not much but I have thrown out the handbag (well sort of back pack handbag) that I have been using for the last 8 years, it was cracking and looking shabby so out it went! I am using one at the moment that doesn't really shut though (hmm if I have a couple of press studs that would solve that!)

  • Meant to say welcome yesterday dragon  Each small thing gone counts.

I had a rubbish day yesterday - meds flaking me out, but always I always forget it's the meds/ilhealth and instead I just think I'm a useless listless waste of space:doh:. The house felt a mess and it seemd like I was getting no where with it dispite all my efforts.

Feel much perkier today and getting back to take one thing off the pile at a time. And I remind myself I have made huge in roads into all the stuff. It only seems never ending now because we have decided to empty the dining room (aka dumping/clothes drying room) completely so I am rehoming kitchen stuff from there into the kitchen (small kitchen with space needed for 2 lodgers, so separate stuff for them) So it means a combination of being ruthless and clever with space and how and where things are stored.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

    Well done Dragon!

we had a coffee table of doom and decided to decorate the lounge which meant it had to be cleared and moved from the room. It's not coming back!

We have just bought a smaller coffee table and this one is not going to get cluttered with anything other than a fruit bowl and a couple of coffee mats.

I still have a Welsh dresser that desperately needs clearing though :)

I'm like that BB, it's only when I have the energy and want to do loads that I remember I'm not a lazy so and so, but then when not well or exhausted, forget and I berate myself all the time. :( I wish I could bottle my good days.

Regarding payslips, the tax office go back 6 years, or is it 7? Or maybe it's changed since I was there! :rotfl:

Going through my late mother's and now sister's paperwork, there is stuff from the 1970's and weird collections of tv licences going back to the 80's! I've had binloads, along with recycling and shredding. Found a couple of things though that dragged me out of my curl up in a ball and hide mode, to full on anger. Anger can be much more productive . It's settled a lot of issues I had, guilt for one...no more!! No more sentimentality about family and if onlys.

Ginger, I wish I was nearer so I could haul some of your stuff away...to the tip, I hasten to add.

Well done all of you. :T xxx

  • I would love a welsh dresser, but sadly we don't have the room.

Just spent a spare 20 minutes in the study - another handful of paperwork shredded or binned, there was just the odd item that had to be kept and that was filed away safely.

As an example of how I haven't been "seeing" my hoard - on one bookshelf was a plastic file with 2 small pieces of paper in. I have overlooked it for a long time and when glancing at it, i would think to myself "it must be important it's been there ages".
When I finally took it down today, it contained 2 10% off vouchers that expired in 2007 :rotfl:. Why have I kept it so long? :wall:

I would love to help Ginger taking stuff to the local tip as well.

Our local council will take four items away for £12 - does your local council do a similar scheme Ginger?
