Weekly Spend Challenge w/c 10 June 12

No spends for me yet today. :j Hoping it stays that way :j
EverTheOptimist - I have been cheating with the joint account - last week for example, I bought two puzzle books and some stationery (a cashbook! and 3 packs of pencils). Ok this didn't add up to much (£3.77 for the stationery, £4 odd for the puzzle books?) but these odd small spends over the year all add up and over the year I must waste quite a lot of money.
I suppose I must work on the basis that if I had to buy it with my own money and decided against doing so then I musn't buy it with the joint account money.
it all also doesn't help give a true/accurate picture of my spends so I'm working on Plan B at the moment (whatever Plan B is!!!) oh and no worries re spreadsheet, I'm just trying to be clever and over complicating things as usual!0 -

I know what you mean. I'm not making excuses but we used the joint account as yesterday was an exceptional day and wasnt planned as hubby found out he was working away for 10 days, he was supposed to be home for the weekend but they decided to change it so we had to meet half way. Then we needed to occupy ourselves for the day in a city we didnt know. but it also wasnt fair for either one of us to pay so thats why we went for the joint.
I tend to budget and plan everything down to every penny, so i use this challenge for the day to day things i waste money on. And i know i would feel like i was cheating if i consistently took from the joint account.
Also although it is a joint account if i spend from it for something for me i feel like i am cheating hubby too.and then feel like he has to take the equivalent money which completely defeats the object.

flat erik - I've been having a think and I don't know much about Open office, but could you set up a Vlookup formula and combine it with an IF function?
Takes a bit of time to set up but once you've got the tables done it's pretty whizzy
For example, on sheet B you could have every possible spend you could make (and it's really simple to expand the field if you add any other spends in) and on A in the cell you want to collateral othe data to the formula would basically be saying
"if there is a figure in the kindle book column, look it up from ths table of data and put the value into this cell"
On excel it would look something a bit like this: =IF(a2>(Vlookup,Table range, which column to pick up, which cell you want to enter to front sheet),(leave blank)
I apologise for the formula - I'm typing on an iPad and can't refer back to a spreadsheet to check it is correct. There should be loads of websites and guides online to help with how to form the formula though.
Hope this helps0 -

Evening all,
Another NSD today - was planning on one anyway, but a CC DD came out earlier than anticipated and made sure. Get paid on Thursday and Friday so I'm seriously skint til then. Might actually make it this week2019 Aim: Save £10,000
Don't sacrifice what you want most for what you want now0 -
Hi all
Signing up late again, problems with my computer again, it keeps randomly & repeatedly typing c, very frustrating. Managed to grab a few minutes on OH's before he takes it to work for the week early tomorrow morning.
Last week spent nothing for this challenge. £0/£5
This week I plan to spend no more than £5
Spends so far:
Sunday NSD
Monday NSDFashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases
One income, home educating family0 -
Today is going to be expensive
but by buying my sw countdown up front, I get two weeks free (saving £10) and I also get a free book (worth £4.95).
I'm also going to the pub at lunchtime and its my turn to pay.
Other than that, I can't think of any spends I need to make ? so hopefully spends can just be as above.0 -
Hi all
Welcome badger_ I've added you to the first post!
Film was really good last night, funny and touching! I spent some money on munchies on an Aldi dash before I met mum so we didn't buy anything in there, so am ok with my spend!
Ruined it though by getting a D0uble D3cker when my friend went on a chocolate run to B00ts for everyone in the office this afternoon - how could I resist?!!!
Sun 10 Jun: £16.26
Mon 11 Jun: £8.15 cinema and snacks
Tue 12 Jun: 70p choccy bar
Total: £25.11/ £25
