I think you may have missed the real issue.

What does all that really mean?

What do you do to over come it?

    Whats the money like?

What's the travel time and cost?
I am not sure I know the answers for the first 2 questions there but the the last two are the salary is £2k more than my last job and the travel cost is £72 a month on the bus and takes 42-50 mins.

Take home after travel would prob be about £190 a month more than my last job.

OK let me help, all you said point to a very simple reason

IMO, the real reason they rejected you was they thought you would not stay long and keep looking for another job.

Even if it is true you have to convince a recruiter that you are a stayer.

Once you establish someone is good enough to do the job top of the list is are they going to stay. even recruiteres that don't actifly look for it any hint this is a stop gap and they will look at other options if they have them.

So what do you do to fix this problem?

Yes I know they thought that I would leave but they never gave my the chance. They can see on my CV that all my jobs have lasted 4-5 years and I only left my last one due to the fact I was made redundant.

I am prepared to do less work for more money as bad as that sounds.

I can't do anything to rectify what they think, only hope the new FC sees my CV in a different light ie: use my experience to their advantage!

I never saw the job as a stop gap because in 2010 I was hoping if I got the job I could learn to drive and get a car to drive to the job as its only 14 mins by car.

This is the issue, you can do a lot to change what they think, you don't sound convincing that you might stick it out, like them I would not take the risk.

You have to be possitive about the job and the company, a history of 4-5 years in jobs is not enough, play down any negative issues like this may be less work.

Emphasise the convenient location, they don't need to know you will be busing it untill you get an offer and the hours clash with the bus time.

Be positive about the renumeration package but not sound like it is all about the money.

Did you tailor the CV for the application knowing what you do about the job.

Try to convince yourself you want this job(not any job), it will be easier to convince others.

I think I would have called to arrange hand delivery of the application and take a chance on getting a short chat with someone to get the CV on the review pile.

    Please don't say this though!

You were disappointed last time, if they mention it - because you always thought/felt they were a really good company and you have always wanted to work for them. You are adaptable and if the workload is less than any previous role, you would happily take on any other duties that your wide skill base could offer.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Of course I wouldn't say that.

My cover letter says I am adaptable and a mentor for younger memebers in the team which I was at my old job. They can use me to their best advantage.

Why do I not sound like I'd stick it out?

I don't get what you are saying about being in a job 4-5 years? I was saying that as I am not a job hopper. I have 20 years experience in the industry.

'hours clash with the bus time'? Erm no as the bus is every 5-8 mins starting at 4.33AM!!! No clashing there for a 9-5 job with the last bus going way after midnight.

I told them I was on more at my last job (as I was underpaid for what I did) & they believed me and they said they were paying the same. £2k more than I was on. They did not think I was asking for more £.

I REALLY wanted the job in 2010 & I still want it now. I was devastated when I never got it.

No, there is no way you can turn up unannounced at a company, get past security then their reception to have a 'chat' with someone!

You need to pretend you are actualy going for this job when responding, what answers are they looking for, certainly not the responces you are giving here.

You are still missing the points, pick up on the wrong bits.

4-5 years in jobs is not enough on its own to say you will stay, that just says you stayed in those jobs, you need to provide more to convince you want to stay in this job. what is it about this job that stands out you have given nothing that says to me you want this job.

On the travel you did not understand or perhapse read what I said. you focused on the wrong bit, the bus times, which are not relevent unless they are inconvenient, not the convenience by driving.

45-50mins on a bus is a lot of travel and will raise a question in the minds of recruiters, but 15min by car, so you emphasise how convenient it is.

How many junior staff are directly supervised by job and how many total are in the finance department?

Pretend? I am not pretending I want the job!!!

45 mins travel is not a lot at all. I have travelled 95 mins before so a short distance compared to that.

The job stands out as its the same industry as ALL my jobs in the last 20 years and an old customer of the last company I worked for. The job is doing the same thing I have done for the last 20 years so I am a good match for it. I don't really need to convince anyone on here I want the job.

This role supervises no junior staff as there are none - like I have said just two in this team doing the same work. From what I remember last time there were 6-7 in finance.

Anyway, thanks for all the replies. Just a case of waiting now, I guess.
