Thanks guys for all the lovely messages - 11+ at it's finest
I haven't caught up yet, just caught a few posts last night and a few when checking this page to post
I did read some messages last night as I was up till about 3.30. I did not reply then as I was in tears reading them too, and Alan was not able to settle and was groaning in pain in bed. I did give him an extra spoon of Oramorph at 3am and he settled a little, enough to get some sort of sleep, but when I went to bed, I just couldn't sleep and just lay watching him struggle and make 'funny noises' in his sleep. At one point he said 'hoi, what you doin'?, stop singing' and was confused when I said it was him making the noises
Anyway, I got to sleep about 6am when Alan had settled a little more, and the alarm went off at 8  Alan's pain had eased and he got up to go the the toilet and, as usual these days, came back in agony after moving around. He said the pain was worse than that he had when they'd had to take him into the hospital. I gave him his meds including the higher strength morphine tablet and oramorph, though he wanted to go back to what he'd been on before i.e. 2 paracetamol & 2 codeine 4 times daily as "the pain wasn't as bad as this when he was taking them'. I explained that he did have the pain as that's why he'd had to go on stronger meds and that we have to find the correct level of slow-release morphine, starting on the lowest and working up, so we will get there
He had a little breakfast and went back to bed, and I went in half an hour later to get dressed and he was much more settled and going to sleep. I have rung the surgery and confirmed that they are not affected by todays doctor's strike and he is on our GP's call list for today
Last night was actually the first time I have really been in tears since we heard the news, so was well overdue and necessary, I know that. I just felt so helpless I used the wrong word last night of useless and I like to be in controlIt has been building up, with me getting annoyed at silly things when out, and a feeling of 'doom' over me' but I am more positive and in control again - where I like to be
I really do have to check who I can call for advice, especially at night or weekends, as this is when you need it most
As suggested by Spoony on my diary, I should ask the GP to ring on my mobile number and then I won't miss any of his calls. Yesterday I missed 2 calls from friends just because it took me so long to get to the phone from the bathroom or bedroom, but I have charged up my new triple phone thanks again Nine Tails and can have a phone in the bedroom and hall so no excuse to miss calls
I am just going to get some housework done   Not like me at all, I knoww, but trying still to declutter the house so it is nicer for Alan, and me of course :rotfl: Keep busy busy busy
BTW, I did notice ToNik asking about kennels fees - a subject I am expert onOur kennels charge £8 for one dog, £13 for 2, and £14 for 3 based on them sharing same run. I supply their own food to ensure they are on their usual diet but you add £1 a day to each rate if you don't take food in, to cover cost of food - does that make sense?
I am thinking of the both of you and sending you hugs :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:0 -
smae here but they have cancelled 5 of the 6 items so know i have to do a 20mile trip to collect 1 stupid toys for £1.25 it just doesnt seem worth bothering with, wish they had just cancelled the whole lots tbh.
I got a text to say mine was cancelledsaid to expect an e-mail too but none have arrived yet
SPC #329 £471/£500 banked
SPC 2014 £1100:D

just having a quick catch up while at work and didn't see your posts last night. You are so strong and positive despite all the hardship you are going through.
Can I just say that your surgery should have a duty dr available every day even if your own regular Gp is not working, especially with palliative care patients the regular follow up is essential.
We usually do start patients off on 10mg twice daily but this is just to check he has no major adverse effects. from what you are saying the dose needs to increased ASAP. Please don't wait for the GP to call......please please ring the surgery and leave a message for the duty dr to ring and advise on the dosage as soon as you can. The GP should be ringing you every other day or even every day if you need that support. Please also get the Macmillan nurse also more involved they are great with this sort of thing and can ring and ask the GP to change doses etc for you.
the other thing is I am wondering if he was hallucinating last night with the oramorph or maybe he was just dreaming? I wouldn't be afraid of giving it to him every 2-4 hours as needed, please be generous with it, if the hallucinations continue in the daytime or if his pain is not getting better more quickly I would suggest patches to your GP
All the best and please don't hesitate to PM me anytime-i am happy to give you my telephone number, i know we are not supposed to give advice but i cannot just sit back and watch you lovely people suffering:(GRATITUDE WHEN GIVEN, PATIENCE WHEN DENIED

I am looking at putting the adut dogs in kennels in august as we want to go away, does anyone know what an average fee would be per dog for a week?? The local kennels want £300 perdog per week:eek: Im hoping thats not normal![/QUOTE]
Wow £300 per dog per week does seem alot
My dog has just been in kennels for a week and it was £13 a day. This included food and they are really good kennels - fully heated, super clean and ran buy dog behaviourists/trainers.
Price did vary on dog size (I've got a border terrier) but think large dogs were about £15 a day.

Much love and positive thoughts are being sent to you 3 dogs. What a terrible day and night Alan had, I really feel for you both. Please be comforted by the fact that so many people do think of you and truly care. It's a very helpless situation but you are both in my thoughts and prayers.:A
Celebrate, your post and your advice are lovely.Tiger

Afternoon all from a very wet and dreary South Devon.
3Dogs......My heart goes out to you both. I'm good with the jokey stuff but never know what to say when it's serious. I do follow your posts religeously and think of you both every day. I'm very often sat with a huge lump in my throat and for some strange reason my eyes leak!!
I find it very humbling to read of what you are both enduring without complaint. You truely are inspirational.:A
Celebrate.....You too are a sweetie. Hope life becomes brighter for you very soon xx
Right.....Have you heard the one about the woman who gets on a bus with her baby.
The bus driver says: “Ugh, that’s the ugliest baby I’ve ever seen!” The woman walks to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to a man next to her: “The driver just insulted me!” The man says: “You go up there and tell him off. Go on, I’ll hold your monkey for you.”My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.0
