I recently upgraded to the BT 40GB limit from the 10GB, cos I kept just going over 10GB per month. In the middle of my second month I've just got an email warning my I've used up my 40GB allowance!!!

I am highly suspicious of BT now, because my usage habits haven't altered much, and because I got a call from them last week giving me the heavy sell on their fibre optic, which I turned down because I wasn't using my BB so much for things requiring higher speeds. Call me suspicious but...

This is exactly how I feel about the situation. I watched half an hour of Eurosport yesterday, and apparently it has gobbled up 1 GB of my allowance - there is something definitely wrong here:(

    So prove it.

Let's recap, what exactly have you done to check your usage?

Have you checked the usage on your router (BT home hub) or just the BT usage meter on your account?

Have you installed a bandwidth monitor as suggested way back in post #13 yet? more info here

You need to compare your recorded usage with BT's recorded usage.

It has taken you until post #51 to disable your wireless!

Yes, following advice from someone a couple of posts prior to that.

I doubt it. Streaming video and audio can consume huge amounts of data.

According to Networx since the 4th I've used 7.23GB using a standalone pc, laptop and xbox live.

I watched 4 hours of darts on skyplayer, my son is running xbox live and laptop running you tube simultaneously. I also watch various other iplayers and also the usual emailing et al. Its the streaming that really uses it up. I'm with Talk Talk

As I said, half an hour of Eurosport using up 1GB??
Hardly comparable with the usage which others are taliking about?

It really depends on so many things mate!
What quality or resolution was the Eurosport stream that you were watching..?
Web pages can take up more than you think, Google may only be 200kb to load but Youtube is 700kb to load and then take something like Cnet which is nearly 3mb, its adds up very quickly..

Forums like MSE tend to be on the low side but so many sites now have all the bells and whistles and eat capped packages for breakfast.

Not sure what the quality/resolution was, but the picture was not great and I have a HD monitor. I checked the usage by logging in to my BT (so their figures) and it was 0.36 GB for yesterday, and again I watched around 40 minutes of Eurosport.
When I log into my "Hub manager", where do I look in there to see what I am using?
My real concern, is that what BT are telling me is my usage, has really escalated over the past couple of weeks, despite me not changing my downloading habits.
