I'd have said tough in the first place and told him to sell it on himself. Thats what i did when someone said they wanted a different eidition of a book to the one i sent (and that was the one tht was listed on amazon)

there is no need to refund unless its damaged or not as described. thats the only way the a-z claim works.

i have received the item back this morning

i am unsure what to refund though, all but the £4.50 he paid for p&p or all but the actual postage cost of £2.38 by 1st class Recorded

i feel i should be entitled to keep the £4.50 he paid for p&p as i used a large jiffy bag which is now un useable due to being cut to size and taped a lot. i have also had the time and hassle of replying to about 15 emails and making 2 long calls to amazon customer services (luckily it was an 0800 freephone number)

this is what the buyer was charged:

    Item(s) Ordered Price
    Item(s) Subtotal: £28.95
Total postal charge to Buyer: £4.50
    Total paid by Buyer: £33.45

    and what i received:

    Total paid by Buyer: £33.45
    Amazon.co.uk Marketplace fees: -4.11
    Applicable VAT amount: -£0.62
    Amount Due Seller: £28.72

what fees will i get back if i refund £2.38 or £4.50?

if i was 100% certain that if i refunded all but my £2.38 postage cost then that would be the end of it then i would, but he insists that he is entitled to a full refund of everything he paid despite the fact that he returned the item due to changing his mind.

If you want to continue the fight I would refund less £4.50 P&P, it's unlikely he took it off of the postman to look at the cost of the postage before refusing it and it includes Packing anyway.

The refund will go through and Amazon will charge the credit card you have registered with them (I think).

However, if you just want to move on I would refund the lot and leave factual feedback on his account - this will serve as a warning to other sellers if he does it again (and if they know how to look).

    Good luck.

i definitely won't be refunding the lot as i am not going to be out of pocket due to him changing his mind.

i'm just wondering how the fees will be calculated and what i will get back from amazon.

i also won't be leaving any feedback unless he does

I decided to refund all but the £4.50 postage charge, as i told the buyer he would get a refund of item cost only on a number of occasions, and I'm glad i did as it appears that amazon kept nearly £2 of the £4.50 for themselves

    Item(s) Ordered Price
    Item(s) Subtotal: £28.95
Total postal charge to Buyer: £4.50
    Amazon.co.uk Marketplace fees: -4.11
    Applicable VAT amount: -£0.62
    Amount Due Seller: £28.72

    Refund Information
    Amount of Adjustment
    Refund - Adjustment made on 19.03.2007 17:55:00 £28.95
Credit to Seller for Commission and Processing fees -£2.89
    Refund from Seller £26.06

out of the £4.50 i kept back, amazon have taken £1.84 so i only got £2.66 which just covered the £2.38 postage i paid out

i am glad i didn't refund all but my £2.38 postage cost as i think i would have only been left with about 50p!

He's not going to spend the fee to take you to small claims court, as he would lose in court. Don't lose any more sleep over it.

You can not see the feedback for buyers on Amazon, unless they have a seller account (or i have yet to find it).
