Hi Sketching and welcome to the thread

Good luck with your grocery challenge. I am a another with 5 of us and have slowly got my spend down to £350/380 so I know what it is like. Make sure you read the first posts on this thread as there are links to some great recipes, links to brilliant money saving threads and Spiggles excellent post that is posted in post #1. Keep reading and posting it all goes to help with motivation, believe me I know. If you miss your target then don't get despondent, just pick yourself up, learn your lessons and start again with maybe a different target and keep trying, you will get there.

Tonight it is just me and my DC3 for dinner as the others are out to a BBQ with cubs/beavers. I sent GF sausages and burgers with them. Bought the burgers as I didn't think my HM burgers would cope with a BBQ. DC3 and I had the LO cauli, broc and bacon cheese from yesterday. So that has done 7 meals and I am really chuffed with that.

Had to get cereal, oil, milk, butter, dw tablets, toilet rolls and a few other bits today and that was £30. So that is £96.75 I have spent in 10 days. Not brilliant but not too bad. If I round that up to £100 for ease that is £10 a day for a family of five or £2 a day per person for breakfast, lunch and dinner and snacks. I can live with that.

Will have to get some more GF sausages and burgers tomorrow as my mum has invited us to a BBQ and DC3 is going to a party with a BBQ and the lady said she was catering for him but said today she didn't feel able. I also need to get 3 pressies for this weekend as well, it's gonna be a busy one again! Some time we may get time to clear the house.

Done the shopping today instead of tomorrow as I've finished work for the summer now (teacher) and I'm away at my parents for the weekend. I also had a £4 off £20 voucher for Mr S to use before it expires tomorrow.
Managed to end up paying just £14.80ish after the voucher was taken off and the lovely boy on the self serve till gave me a £3 Mr S price check voucher he'd found on the floor - nice little chap!

I may need to pick up a bit of fruit in the week but I should come in comfortably under target.:T

My new month starts next Saturday - will have a think about how many weeks there are and what I can aim for considering I'm home until the beginning of September.

Question, are any of the own brand diet colas any good? My preference is Pepsi max, but unless on offer it isn't cheap, and I tried the sainsburys one but it's yuk...

I'm like you and like pepsi max. All the other cheapie ones taste awful. The only one I have found that tastes the same (imo) is the Mr M's own but it has to be the Extra one. I picked up their normal cola and it was vile. The Extra is perfect I think you get two for a pound.
Tea tonight is going to be enchiladas as they're lovely comfort food for us and not too much faff to make.

Mmm I love Enchildas, I agree definite comfort food.

  • Hi
Just had a tally up and I am up to £317.03/£350 :( so I will definitely go over. That does include £9.99 from the rainforest place for dishwasher tablets and £30 for toiletries (coop pharmacy online offer that OP posted - sorry can't remember who but thanks). Both of which will be used after July (especially the toiletries which may last a year :) ). I know I could spread the cost over future months but I will take the hit now and be done with it.

Freezer is starting to groan again as it is very full mostly with DH yellow sticker bargains. We seem to get lots of fish so I will search the recipes for inspiration.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, especially if the weather really does perk up.

    Xx

  • DH got paid early today for some reason instead of Wed so we have money for food - yay! Having said that, I'd thought of meals up until Monday anyway, so hopefully next week will be a cheap one :). We're starting on next month's budget and it's a 5 week month for us so my budget for the August is £370. Let's see if I can stick to it ;).

First day of my August challenge yesterday and I do my weekly shop on a Friday so I have some spends to report.

£31.69 in Mr A on chicken, GF stuff, fruit and cabbage and some other bits and £40.10 in Ald1 including bleach, DW tablets, loo block, kitchen towel, loo roll and shampoo which will all last a good while.

I also spent £1.04 at work on a tea and a rare chocolate bar.

I buy the larger tins of pineapple in Mr A as they are cheaper than the smaller ones but after using some for pizza topping I have a lot left. Does anyone know if it freezes OK?

If I had though ahead I could have used it to make an upside down cake for my DPs who are coming for lunch but had already bought cream to make a cream and raspberry sponge. I am also going to make JJ's cheese bread for elevenses.
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

How about making a quick batch of muffins and using the pineapple in those or the micro puds: 2oz of sugar, butter and SR flour and one egg for 2-3 mins in microwave? Tastes like a steamed sponge!
