  • Jumblejack THANKS VERY MUCH for the banana icecream link, i do freeze bananas for smoothies so i don't have to add icecream to thicken, but didn't occur to do that, im thinking i might freeze minus skin, their a bu******r to peel when frozen, freezer-burn fingers. Does anyone know the propoints on these, i know it sometimes changes when things are frozen.

mmmmm am i putting off updating my signature.

Small spend of 65p today as out of milk - will update sig tomorrow after main shop. Wrote my shopping list/meal plan and don't need much at all, so my plan of stocking up so only have to get deliveries twice a month seems to be working. Saves me the delivery charge as I can get the bus back (free with monthly travel pass) if it's a small enough shop to carry (otherwise its a taxi which is same price as delivery). Just need to be super vigilant as I know I find it harder to resist off the list stuff in the actual shop!

Frugal lunch today - OH wasn't very hungry when we had sausage and mash the other night, so I saved his uneaten mustard mash (most of the portion - funnily enough he managed his three sausages though! :rotfl:) and made a kind of hash/fallen apart potato cake for lunch with fresh rosemary, spring onions and cheese in it. Had with salad and felt quite fancy for leftovers!

Oh I sometimes freeze them in their skins too if I'm in a rush and always regret it! Nightmare to peel/chop when frozen! I now try and peel and chop and freeze in freezer bags, labelled with how many bananas in them (I use them for banana milkshakes mainly, yum!).

Xspender, let me know how it goes with the bread, if it goes well then I will try it for my 2 as well.

I used a5da SR GF flour and it worked perfectly, I didn't need any extra liquid. It is like a big cheese scone and very tasty and quick to make and I will certainly be making it again:D

I peel them and lie them flat in a single layer in a lock and lock or a freezer bag. They pop out no problem then :)

Re the rancid chicken and wrong price bacon: I recently had chicken wings from a tesco delivery that were REVOLTING when I opened them (still in date) so I emailed them to complain and I have got a refund plus a £3 voucher. So I would say either email them or phone the store to see what they say. It's always worth a go. If you go there regularly then you can phone the store and they should make a note of it so you can get a refund next time you go in. I did that Sainsbury's once. Good luck!

Hi all, been to mr a today will need to check receipt an update siggy, but I think my winter store is complete. Really mustn't buy anything else unless specifically for Xmas.

We are not isolated here but I am home alone with two toddlers so shopping in bad weather can be inconvenient. So I have plenty of long dated stuff to tide us over, should we hole up for a few days.

I was caught in a drencher last week, thunder, lightening, two toddlers in a metal shopping trolly, and a carpark starting to flood. Then scatty me couldn't find the keys. Luckily the tots were already in the car, so I must have had them to open it, lol, but I had to get out and look under the car, in the boot, under the kiddy seats etc. I was soaked through to my undies.

If I can avoid that again, I will!

  • Still to catch up on some posts (only a few pages behind ... honest :o)

Just been to Mr T (not my fav place as some of you may know but had £4 off £40 & £8.50 in c/card vouchers & needed a decent amount of stuff ..... and I did check prices between there & Mr A before I went & the stuff I needed was on offer at Mr T:T).

Doing slightly better on the budget than I thought (had originally worked it out to £100.83) but realised I'd forgotten to deduct the £12.50 in coupons :o (not as easy as just looking at the receipt as there was stuff in the shop for both the cats & dog, who have a separate budget) - so .... it's a bit better than I thought at £88.33 / £160 (stocking up month so slightly higher budget than usual).

Reasonably happy as I have bought quite a lot of chicken (due to the defrosted freezer incident :() - have just dug one out the freezer for tomorrow (and will last several days ;)) and still have 3 left in there :) as well as a load of chicken breasts (were on offer @ Co*op) and a couple of blocks of mince ... should have enough meat to the end of the month :T

Hoping (famous last words :p) to come in a bit under budget as still need to claw back the 1st quarter overspend ......

    Banana icecream update:

    Step 1
    Buy YS bananas:
    photo-173.jpg?t=1342210452

    Step 2
    Wham em in the freezer:
    photo-175.jpg?t=1342261440

    Step 3
Whisk em into a frenzy. Optional: add syrup/honey, etc (not necessary though for the end result;)):

    Step 4
Refreeze and serve as and when required...

Picture will inevitably follow but maybe not tonight ;)
