    Wow!

I think the Loughborough BS have been overwhelmed by the interest. They have therefore chosen to restrict it to people who live locally to them - which is understandable.

This is one of the reasons I keep checking on this website - you need to be quick off the mark!

The Mail on Sunday had an article on Building Societies yesterday giving the total voting membership of each BS.
The Loughborough has 18,158 eligible members of which 2,815 voted in 2007 (15.5%) as opposed to 19.2% in 2006.
This compares to 6,500,000 with the Nationwide and 1,091,241 with the Portman who they are about to swallow up.
Makes you wonder how many new investors have recently joined.

yep excellent post :T its fair to say that there will be a lot of both plc and mutual larger organisations who wont be amused to say the least to see loughborough issuing such an excellent 2.50% gross interest guarantee over and above the base rate for 2 years ( without expensive peak time tv advertising and without major strings attached) and the fact that a considerable amount of money will be flowing out of these organisations. re loughboroughs added postcode stipulation for the regular savers + account the change was made after late morning as i checked the site mid morning, from experience building societies who introduce " locals only" or higher minimum opening balances for "non locals" tend to treat existing members as if they were locals ie from experience the full range of open accounts tends to be made available to all existing members whether they are local or non local;) Loughboroughs year end is 31 october, next annual report will be mailed out to a very wide audience and will make interesting reading, would be nice if loughborough make their annual reports "small letter size"

A very unscientific interpretation of the Mail on Sundays figures of voting members against the declared assets of the Building Societies from their own website shows that the Manchester BS (28th largest) has the highest deposits per member and the Chelsea BS (6th largest) the 3rd highest.
Any thing to do with overpaid footballers? :footie:
Maybe Nationwide should move Head Office from Swindon to Liverpool:footie: as they are only in 13th place by this formula.

manchester building society have had very high minimum opening balances for some time( currently MOB of 2500.00 which might answer that point ,,, chelsea BS id have thought attracts very affluent londoners ,,,not so many years ago the now defunct lambeths BS reserves/member ratio were regarded as mega but slumped in real terms in recent years

What's the thing with three commas, bristol? Sentences normally start with a capital letter and end with a full stop, you know!

Forum Rule 2: If it's unintelligable people don't have to read it an probably won't.
Your contributions are particularly syntactically dense and therefor I for one, don't bother.
