i got 3 accounts plan to fund max subs in all 3 for year 1 so as to be earning 2.5% above base rate for year 1-2 on 9000 then in second year drop to 10.00 a month on all 3...depending on whats being offered by loughborough when rate guarantee runs out i may use 2 accounts to fund isas ( 1 each side of tax year 2008/09 and 2009/10...i was nearly going to open a 4th account ( could just about fund it from existing lump sum savings ( currently in scarborough earning 6.3% gross) but decided not to put all eggs in 1 basket0 -
bristolleedsfan - you have turned me green! I'm happy with my 1 - but 3 would have been ace. Well done, you.0

cheers 4 compliment  i was 2 say the least taken aback when i saw no mention of max 1 account per person, even the postal remittance facility can be handy if funds are with another building society cos getting a cheque and posting it straight on saves paying into current account and worrying about ingoing cheques clearing etc. i was soooooo tempted to go for 4 accounts  but have to think when guaranteed rate ends with reg savers prob is finding a high interest home for the lump sum produced, by not doing 4 with loughborough means i can maximum fund yorkshire reg saver for longer, yorkshire reg saver i believe will be the most consistent reg saver high payer and for longer as long as brittania dont buy yorkshire :rolleyes:0 -
If Britannia Bdg Society were to merge with Yorkshire BS the former would have to greatly improve their efficiency - the 2 are poles apart, in my experience. Yorkshire BS has for years been efficient, fast and thorough in responding to email queries, plus offering prompt, adequate rate rises when appropriate. Britannia BS has for years totally excluded me from their members' loyalty points scheme, despite more than 10 years membership, several reminders of exclusion, and numerous other complaints including serious Direct Debit malfunction spanning about 3 years and still ongoing. Worst bdg soc in the UK, methinks.0

as u may be aware brittania and yorkshire linked up several years ago to form something like "mutual 1", people can pay in and i think withdraw at both even if u only have an account with 1 of them , brittanias savings rates have been awfull for some time (variable reg saver pays about 5.2% gross inc bonus) the rumour for some time has been that yorkshire and coventry will merge and then at a future date brittania and yorkshire will merge, often mergers dont take place nerely due to small disagreements, i did read that yorkshire and portman ( before nationwide announcement of proposed merger with portman) were 24 hours away from a proposed merger but couldnt agree on a product range0 -
Can I vary the amount of my reguler payment?0

with yorkshire RS yes with loughborough RS only on anniversary, yorkshire RS can be funded by standing order or cash/cheque in person at branch0 -
bristolleedsfan - Coventry BS and Yorkshire BS are amongst the best in the UK, I feel, and I rather hope they resist longest of all. My experience of both far exceeds that of Nationwide BS over the years, but maybe with the new 'boss' it may improve. Part of me wishes a Yorksire/Portman merger had occurred instead of the latter going (potentially) with/to Nationwide. Re over-the-counter deposits at Britannia BS for transfer to Yorkshire BS account(s), what experience have you (+ others) had with this? When I last asked Yorkshire, they said it was not possible to 'feed' their Internet Saver or monthly savings account by this method. Has this changed?0

imho since nationwide protected itself from a conversion challenge its kicked savers in the teeth, saying that the larger societies never did pay the best savings rates which is why the larger societies have been keen to swallow the smaller societies, ive had various coventry accounts in the past they have tended to launch best buy savings accounts which soon became mediocre and superceded by more best buy savings accounts, service was always good from coventry though
weve got both a yorkshire and britannia in city centre so have always gone to yorkshire branch to fund yorkshire account
its new nationwide CE that has publicly said he supports current account fee charges which is totally against nationwides previously declared principles ie not charging for everyday services0
