Also, I think she has a tough job. She has to visit countries and leaders that she may despise and basically has to give the government (whichever one is in power) her approval. She has no power herself, really.
I wouldn't want to do her job. Would you?
Yes I would do her job. She may have to do the odd visit of other leaders she despises - but hey, I spend 40 hours a week stuck in an office with some rather unsavory characters. Plus her 'wage' is rather larger than mine. The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -

Somehow, I get the idea you have no idea what her 'job' actually entails.0 -
I know it's unfashionable, but I do like Elton.

I think a lot of silly arguments are started by narrow minded presumptions, so I shall leave you to presume as you so wish. The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Good old Prince Philip has got his head screwed on.
Another jaunt off to hospital to avoid all the standing around and waving. I seem to remember he managed to avoid the dry turkey, paper hats and listening to his wife ramble on over christmas with a similar stunt
True British style, pull a sickie
And I am JOKING BTW before anyone complains!0 -

Haha, brilliant - I thought exactly the same!:rotfl:0 -
I thought Madness singing and the lightshow projected on the palace was absolutely superb. I enjoyed it all (except the classical music, just not my thing) and thought every performer gave it their very best! Well done to them all!
Ps: loving the 'pulling a sicky comment' - brilliant!0 -
I went to the river pageant and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was brilliant - everyone waving their flags and cheering. I spoke to Americans, French, Italians all have a good time.
I was standing by Battersea Bridge by a block of apartments where people were standing on their balconies, waving flags and singing (God Save the Queen, Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory). Most of them looked to be in their early 20's and I thought how great it was that young people were so patriotic.
I got soaked - literally head to foot but would not have missed it for the world. I was proud to be British and thought London put on a great show.
I was never much of a fan of the royal family but over the years have grown to have a lot of respect for the Queen. How many people in their 80's would be able to or want to do what she does. To stand in the cold and rain for all those hours on Sunday and then yesterday sit through a concert which she probably was not really interested in, until fairly late, up again this morning for the church service and undoubtedly worrying about her husband.
I would not want her job for all the money in the world. Ok it's not exactly working down a mine but she did not choose the job and has had 60 years of having to always look good, always smile, chat to people she has never met before and, to be totally honest, probably has no real interest in. She gets to travel but never has a proper holiday in those places. She has to stand or sit for hours in the heat, cold, rain etc and never looked bored or doze off. How many people in their 80's could or would do that? How many younger people could or would want to?
She can't just nip to the shops or the cinema, theatre, museum, art gallery, to the beach, to a local restaurant. She can't just get up and decide she can't be bothered to perform that days dutiesThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

Exactly. We all have things that we're expected to do either in our jobs or family life, but we have the option to take some time out. She doesn't. And she's been doing this job for 60 years. Who would like to do the same job for that long?0
