  • I've been using the 18866 since reading this article - fantastic used the phone for 5hours 43 mins so far and the cost is £1.12. Combined with my free 240 mins evenings and weekends with my other call provider, my monthly bill will be the smallest ever.

I regularly call a mobile in Italy. The call checker lists "Liquid Dial account" as the cheapest (0p per minute) but I can not find this on their web site. I can only find 19p per minute but as I currently use 18866 at 15p per minute this is no benefit.

Am i looking in the wrong place?

AIUI, nobody checks these prices manually (almost a full time job, I would have thought) but the CallChecker 'trawls' the websites of the various other providers automatically.

It appears that 'trawl' somehow read something on the Liquid Dial site which it interpreted as 0p/minute to Italian mobiles.

I don't think you'll find cheaper than 15p/minute at the moment.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

Has anyone else signed up with axis telecom? Free local and national calls, and 30p cap on all mobile calls up to 1 hour duration. Having 2 daughters whos friends all have mobiles, this seemed like a good idea to me. Havn't had the T&C through the post yet, but if there is anything dodgey in there I will try and pass it on.

I became wary as soon as I read the following on their website:
Axis Telecom. Line rental is £12.92 per month, which is cheaper than BT together.

Personally, I'd have liked Martin to have included in the new article a warning about line rental providers' T&Cs.

I believe only BT are obligated to allow customers to route their calls over other firms (e.g. 18866, 1899) and others have the option to bar, disconnect, surcharge or whatever other draconian act they feel like.

OneTel, for example, now offer line rental for £9.99/month - 51p less than BT but Section 3.4 of their T&Cs states:Now that's a pit waiting to be fallen into ............

If you give your line rental to another company you have to pay your own maintainance, including paying for all faults and repairs, I understand.

I thought that offer (LeisureUKTalk free for a year) ended on 30/4/05. What exactly are they offering?

The line rental, which is available to anyone with a BT line, is a saving of 51p per month on what BT charges. IMHO though, it's not worth taking a chance and changing that side of things because only BT are required to allow you to use other carriers for your calls and, although OneTel do at the moment, there's no guarantee they will not change their T&Cs.

According to the Onetel website included in the line rental at £9.99 you get free local and national w/end calls. The w/end is from midnight Friday to midnight on Sunday so I think you need to check with Onetel about the evening calls.

BT don't charge you for transfering the line but once you have changed to Onetel for line rental they may well charge you for any faults on the line.

Anyone else had this problem calling a UK line this morning ?
Does anyone know why this has happened, I notice the UK is missing from the list of countries !

    Ah, it's back to 0p per min (09:12) :T

Sorry Jake, didn't read yours first - thanks.
