I can share your pain - according to mine I never do anything quite right!
If I got a B at school...it wasn't an A.
I dropped out of uni due to my dad being very ill...my HND is not a degree.
I don't get depressed because my house isn't show home standard...means I've slovenly.
Good luck with staying positive, only way to do it is to remind yourself you are in control

Many people in my family are like this, and other people I have known. I am like this too, I fight very hard to make myself see anything as other than a waste of time. I don't really have anything useful to add. You just need to think about your goals, and why you want to achieve them. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.**Debt Free as of 15:55 on Friday 23rd March 2012**And I am staying that way

Hi Hunny
Had to post on this
Firstly) Wow what an amazingly strong person you must be and not even know it. To deal with all of that and still be so hopeful for the future!
Secondly) Easier said than done but ignore them nod nicely and say yes mum & dad and then do it anyway
You sound like you have it in you to succeed so don't let them drag you down. For every negative you receive use it as the fuel to get on and do it. Use it to prove them wrong you might find it may even change their attitude too
There will always be people who want to drag you down (i get this too) You know what you want and judging by what you have been through so far you deserve it.First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -

Thank you heartbreak_star, yes, i know exactly what you mean, isn't it annoying
Stay positive too, thank you x0 -
Yes, my mother is like this.
The thing is, the power is in your hands. Stop expecting them to be positive and encouraging. Don't tell them stuff.
It's hard, I know, it would be so nice to get some warm enveloping love, but surely it's better not to tell them things and get kicked, and to smile and turn the subject round to them moaning about their lives?0 -

I hope it makes you feel better to know yours aren't the only family to be like that.
All the very best of luck with the future.

I agree with this 100%
Don't tell them. Don't tell them until you've done it. I know it must be hard, you want to share stuff with them and get their support. But if their responses make you feel unhappy then don't put yourself through it. You've got a positive enough attitude after the things that have happened to you already. Just keep going and make sure you get the things you want. Good LuckEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -

Thank you, and yes, that's exactly what it's like, i think i will tell them less, as i don't think they will ever change.0
