Got a call from VMS this morning re hire vehicle etc - now they want to send out an engineer to assess the damages to the motorbike. If they were going to do this anyways why bother asking me to get a repair quote in the first place wasting my time and effort, they could have sent out the engineer immediately right...the insurers wrote to me on 1st june as per the date on the letter(although I received it only on 8th June), so they could have sent the engineers with days after that rather than delaying a further 15 days.....I wonder if they were trying to get away with it all by waiting and watching if I can produce any evidence that 3663's truck was responsible and if I did not have any then they might have tried to wash it off their hands I suppose !!

The engineer is normally sent out once an estimate has been arranged, their job is to check the estimate to ensure the work on the estimate is required, the prices are correct and all of the work is being done.

This helps ensure the costs are correct and reduces the chances of the other Insurer querying the repair costs once they are sent to them for payment

Thanks 'dacouch' - that information is quite reassuring tbh and helps keep my anxiety in check that all is going forward normal. Just waiting for the engineer to get in touch now - was told by VMS it would be within 2 days...
  • Making progress folks, the engineer visited on wednesday and examined the damages to the bike.
Got a call from VMS and the 3663 insurers today - agreed on a figure to settle, and they are sending me the cheque on monday. I'm going to take that money and put it towards my new bike and sell this bike as it is (disclosing all of this information re accident offcourse), probably will make a reasonable track bike for someone interested if the frame is still straight

And a mega thanks goes to all here in MSE and especially 'mcjordi' for all the help and guidance friends, thank you all very much :T:T:j:T:T

  • Yes they factored in the time I've spent on dealing with this accident, but there were not many other costs for me until this point apart from what I paid to the service centre to get a repair quote (£20). The settlement itself is not fantastic, but just about reasonable I think (I'm no good at negotiating, just aimed for not being at a loss) as I opted for settling instead of getting the bike repaired(which they also offered to do). I hope the cheque comes out soon so hopefully I can grab a new bike before the riding season starts proper.
  • I came across this thread again.
Its good to know it all ended well.
