From their own published accounts - http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/Accounts/Ends20/0001121320_ac_20110331_e_c.pdf

It also suggests that the charity has more money in the bank than they paid out to charitable casues.
3 years worth of accounts are here if you want to dig further - http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/Showcharity/RegisterOfCharities/CharityWithoutPartB.aspx?RegisteredCharityNumber=1121320&SubsidiaryNumber=0

The forums will be the first to go once MS has control, particulary DT and the Arms. They will tell us all this is not the case, but they once promised they would never give away our private e-mail addresses away to third parties either. I guess MS is no longer listed as a third party, so he is covered.

Funny you should say that. Is it just me that has vivid memories of the time, a year or two ago, when many users details were thought to have possibly been taken after so many of us, if not all, received an e-mail?

    Wasn't that company MS?

“MoneySavingExpert.com is rightly trusted by its users as a unique source of independent information and views in today’s complex financial world. We are committed to maintaining its trusted, independent, reputation. MoneySupermarket will continue to source even better product offerings for customers and further our goal of saving more customers more money in our quest to save UK consumers £2bn a year by 2014.

An extract from MS statement. How can they maintain it's independence when they will own it?

The whole Skimlinks farce has now been exposed for what is was - a shameless moneygrabbing exercise. The whole purpose was to get the site ready for commercialization so that it would be more attractive to a prospective corporate buyer.

MSE Martin tried to make it sound like they were just trying to break even, without disclosing that he was already raking in £16m a year in revenue from the site.

I'd encourage everyone to go to their user settings and turn the creepy Skimlinks software off, unless you like your posts being mined for profit.

My skimlinks have never been turned on!

I do find it strange thet there are so many new posters complaining

The notes to the accounts also state that "Stuart and
Associates received £26,320 during the year as payment for operational management services. This cost was met entirely from the funds contributed in the year by Mr M S Lewis of £26,320 (including Gift Aid).... None of this cost of operational management services was met from funds donated by MoneySavingExpert.com.

I just felt that this needed to be corrected quickly as it doesn't seem a fair comment.

It's true that the more popular a site becomes the more servers and bandwith you have to put behind it to keep it working well but I don't think its anywhere near facebook size as yet.

I'd agree with a lot of the sentiment that a lot of the deals were sourced by forum members but I think he probably feels now is the right time to sell before companues like MoneySupermarket decide to cut back on affiliate marketing and put the money instead into TV and radio advertising.

He's probably delivered the ultimate money saving tip to MoneySupermarket 'buy my site and save yourself 10 million per year'

Hear hear. I cannot believe the lies and vitriol being directed at Martin on this thread. It is this that might make me want to leave this forum far more than the sale!

How would people have felt if he'd decided to float it on the stock exchange?

You could have then bought shares in it.
