I have always maintained the need for an completely independent Welfare Rights voice on these Forums to counteract these above and Benefits Bashers making it safe for people needing to claim, that is most of MSE, to do so without judgement or controversy. *Sigh*
At least £1m donation to CAB is some sort of acknowledgement of that.

Why not alternative sources of Funding for MSE Martin? The £87m the other way, surely there are better than Moneysupermarket?

Me neither. I started at the beginning, but I couldn't believe what I was reading. There's an astonishing, bizarre, utterly incomprehensible sense of entitlement in some of the posts. This entire website is about increasing the amount of money you have. The founder has just done something to increase the amount of money he has. As far as I can see, what he's done is entirely in keeping with the philosophy of this website. The fact that his work has given him the opportunity to do it on a scale way above what almost everybody else will ever see doesn't change that. Sites like this usually have a finite time before their usefulness ceases. Even if MSE has reached, or nearly reached, its "Use By" date, it's had a good run.

I have often wondered what would happen if Martin were to decide he'd had enough, or fell ill. I know there are others to keep the site going temporarily, but Martin's permanent departure would have sunk the site anyway. Maybe now it could keep going.

Meanwhile, one small plea. Could this input of new IT skills mean the end to the "MartinLewis" emoticon. Please. I've no objection to the portrait, but that wretched "flipping" action has been irritating the heck out of me for years.

I feel a little betrayed. Martin was already making a nice income for himself via this site. It smacks of greed and shows a lack of integrity.

Essentially all our email addresses have been sold for a little more than £2 each. Makes us feel valued eh??
