Indeed where else would you be allowed to make so many meaningless posts? You would be so sorely missed.0 -

Hmmm.... spent the the last hr since hearing the news thinking about what I would do. I'd take the money if someone offered me 87m after I'd spent the last few years advising others how to maximise their income and save as much money as they could in day to day life. I'd be a fool / hypocrite / liar if I said I'd do anything else. Everytime I've seen / heard Martin in the media his info has been helpful and aimed at helping consumers like me.
I doubt in the long run this site will exist in it's current form if at all. MSupermarket is a fierce and large financial beast perhaps this sale was inevitable?
Sadly we live in a society built on the pursuit of personal gain (call it 'money saving' if you like). MSE has become a brand and a very successful one. So why can't Martin sell up and move on?
I for one have saved a few quid, won a few small prizes from the comps thread, gained info and advice from fellow forum members. Hopefully I'll keep the money saving ethic for years to come and make sensible financial decisions based on how this site has helped me and pass that info on to other people. Wasn't that the whole purpose of the site?
I don't begrudge Martin and those who work on the site their sucess.
But it has come as a shock but hey, that's life.0 -
Me neither. I started at the beginning, but I couldn't believe what I was reading. There's an astonishing, bizarre, utterly incomprehensible sense of entitlement in some of the posts.
What permission do you think ought to have been sought? I'd be astonished if MSE has done anything beyond or outside the permissions you and I and everyone else gave when we signed up here.
I also noticed when I signed up that anything I posted immediately became the property of MSE, and that I was not, therefore, entitled to post the same bit of text anywhere else without the written permission of MSE. Occasionally I wondered if it would be worth re-posting some of the stuff I posted on one topic on another web, just to test that rule.
But morally, your objector has a point. Part of what makes this site valuable is this forum. On it many people have posted advice and information which has helped others. Some of us have spent hours carefully putting together (and checking) information for other users.
That information stream is part of what draws users into the site - it is a place where they can get specific help and not just the more general information provided by the articles etc.
In that sense those users who post for the advantage of others have had their work sold to MSM. Legally, they have not - since (as I said above) the terms of forum usage clearly say that posts become the property of the site. Nonetheless, I can empathise with the sense of betrayal. I don't share it, because I read the bits which handed my labour over before I did it.
I'm sure Martin would point out that reading the T&C is always a good idea.
(What I haven't done is read all of the last x pages of this thread - the first couple were enough. I just posted what I wanted to say.)0 -

No it hasn't, you just didn't bother to read the "how this site works" information. It was hardly hidden from you, it's at the bottom of the main page and included in every article.0 -
