Good luck to Martin - no problem with him cashing in.

What I do object to is his ridiculous efforts to dress this up as something which is good for the site and not a sell out. Trying to make fools of everyone on here.

Of course it's a sell out. Just like Tripadvisor does its best to get people to book their hotels on it's parent - expedia - we will be subtly pushed in the direction of the new owners of this site. They are not buying it for nothing.

I wonder how long "boycot Moneysupermarket" threads will last...

  • Good for Martin. He and his team have done a lot of work to make this site excellent and we've all had a lot of benefit from it for nowt. And good for Martin giving £10million to the CAB too. Fair play.

Some incredibly childish comments being made here. This site was never "ours", it has always been Martin's, to do with as however he pleases. Some of the people commenting here obviously don't understand how the world of business works.

Did you all just expect him to run the site himself until the day he dies? Every successful start up business has to be sold on at some point if it is to progress. Martin appears to have done this in a way that sticks to his morals as best as possible, and he's obviously not just in it for the money or he wouldn't be giving £10m of it away.

I too worry for the future of the site, but that isn't going to be helped by sore losers taking their ball and going home. As for those saying "One less subscriber to the email here", Oh boo hoo, whatever.

And do you think it would be the success it is now without the contribution of the 1000's of forums members?

God we are a nation of moaners. Fair play is all I say. Why do we fear change so much.

It makes perfect sense, over 50% of Martin's referral fees come from Moneysupermarket, which is already 15-16m a year (total referrals). You telling me there is any difference from the referrals Martin is pocketing to selling the site outright? It's just business, and Martin is still Editor in chief for another 3 years.

Martin is giving his "only interview" today on Radio 5 in about 10 minutes.

Congratulations Martin, I don't doubt for one minute that anyone on this forum would have done any differently.

Well all I can say is well done Martin and the MSE team. I have learned many things from this website and saved heaps of cash. The main editorial stuff has been never been my sole source of info though. It has been a prompt that things can be different. The main source of advice and support has always come from the forum, which unless it starts to get edited to remove competitors will still thrive.

Moneysupermarket for me has been alot more reliable than say confused and meerkats. At least i don't get a phone call within 5 minutes of doing a comparison saying I see we're the cheapest, do you want our deal? (confused.com you know)

If MSE has taught any of us anything is that we shop around and don't accept the first deal we see. If MoneyS.com start saying they're the cheapest we'll still check :)

  • What a shame. Martin worked so hard to get the trust of so many, and now it's going to be owned by someone who simply doesn't have that trust. And why has it been bought, because of that trust. Surely.

Now I've unsubscribed from the weekly email, how the hell do I get this site to forget about me?
I generally post and run. You probably wont be able to engage me in conversation as I probably wont be around to read replies....
