Somebody tell me this is some joke.
Martin Lewis, this is a cop out. I have spent all these Years deliberately avoiding Moneysupermarket only to discover I am becoming a member of it.
Sorry Martin but thats outrageous, I always thought you were better than this. At least give us long standing and loyal members the option of opting out of it. I for one have absolutely NO INTENTION of becoming a member of the profiteering Moneysupermarket site, I never asked to be nor did I ever want to be.
You really sold us out like this?????:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I can imagine they are rubbing their hands together at the thought of all the data this site hold on people...
And what makes you think people's details will be sold to MS? I didn't read that anywhere in the article. Stop being paranoid.
I think a congratulations are in order for Martin, he deserves it, he's helped so many people, and not just using this site, his TV appearances as well. Why are people so shocked someone with good intentions will say no to millions of pounds? It's not like he's dealing with the devil, he's dealing with another company set up to help people save money, ok so it's more about money for MS, but that's not going to change this site.
Give it a chance, Martin's not going anywhere. And if he does leave this site in years to come, he can't exactly be around here forever anyway, he's not immortal!0 -
£15m last year, £12m in 2010... But too many people simply thought of it as a little project free from adverts for the benefit of the consumer, but in reality it was a massive financial product advertising platform, within a niche targeted towards the large portion of financially clueless population.
Where do you get those figures from? They do sound reasonable I suppose.0 -
From the site's privacy policy:
We do collect your e-mail address when you register to receive Martin's Money Tips email. We do not share your e-mail address with 3rd parties and your e-mail address will never be sold onto a 3rd party.
I presume that means that our email addresses will not have been sold to MS as part of this deal? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.

Good for you Martin.
I would have done the same in your position.
You have saved me money over many years, so why shouldn't you be rewarded for all your hard work.
Lovely gesture helping out the CAB.
I raise my glass to you :beer:0 -
Maybe we should rename the site MONEYGRABBINGEXPERT now?!?!
Martin is part of the 1% now, lets get hiiimmm!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously though, a lot of people here need to relax and get with the times.0 -
Clearly Martin is smart enough to know of the huge backlash he and the team would get from this announcement, he's not stupid. MSE has always been a business by helping others save.
Clearly people have put a LOT of personal investment in the site, the forum, the friendships and the trust in Martin's help and advice over the years. I've personally learned loads from just visiting the site, saved a TON of money in intrest on 'playing the system' and thankfully helped a few unhappy Santander customers along the way. So it's inevitable people will be peeved off at him 'selling out'. Editorial independance will no doubt be eroded over the next 3 years ML is at the helim still (with it likely dissapearing when he 'bows out'), but until then I plan on getting the most from the site whilst I still can.
As such, I say fair play for getting a good return on his overall investment of very hard graft, time and his own money from the start. Building up a successful website is a massive time sink, never mind keeping it going as it expands at a rapid rate.
From a user perspective point of view, the backlash will eventually tail off, peoples anger will change to acceptance and they'll either continue to use the site or they wont. The world's still spinning and tomorrow will still come.
Best of luck for the future MSE and ML, I really hope it pans out the way you want it to.0 -

This time last week I wouldnt have thought the whole site would be sold to Moneysupermarket...
Yes the last paragraph states that users details wont be passed onto Moneysupermarket.
Any new users probably will though, and any forum posts we make will too.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
