Hello to newbies, welcome to the Grocery Challenge.
Managed to spend €69.27 today but should really be all I need until the end of the month except for milk...€11.10 of that spend was on dried fruit and some Brazil nuts in Nature's Way so there should be no problem getting our 5 a day on what we have...even the garden is co-operating with a salad a day and I have also pulled some of the carrots from my square foot garden, and there is a little broccoli as well.
Am now left with €133.28 which should be ok provided none of my starving 'children' arrive unexpectedly from foreign parts!

Evening all
Well picked up a bottle of sesame oil, a bottle of greek red wine for hubby (only €3.99 for a 2lt bottle and tastes like port), a bottle of fish sauce and a bottle of teryaki sauce today....
So this evenings dinner was crispy duck and HM pancakes mmmmm 2/3 of the duck has gone into the freezer in 2 lots and out of 20 pancakes 10 were left so have gone into the freezer -so hubby can have the same again twice more :T .. it worked out really economical as the duck was about €6 -so €2 for a meal for 2...and it was stunning if i say so myself....
The next couple of weeks im going to yank the belt tighter as i have been taking advantage of the "whoopsies" so now the chest freezer and the fridge/freezer are jam packed...so unless one of you have a spare child for me to sit on the freezer lid - i don't think i will be putting any more in there:rotfl:
Had some good news today -which has taken the pressure off.. we were told the house we have in the UK needed the roof replacing -to the tune of £3500:eek: got a 2nd quote today.... for £75 to replace the broken tiles, do the flashings, and clear any debris off ...... so we are going with that option for now-hopefully giving us time to get the money together to replace the roof in time for winter :T -so now my savings from my house keeping are going towards that..... instead of on my waistline , oh and to top it all hubby went to get me some flowers on his way home... the NAFFI was closed so he stuck €2 in the fruit machine and won €170 :T ..came home and gave me 1/2 :j so that will be going straight in the bank on Monday
have a good weekend everyone-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Further to all the posts I have read relating to a shortage of ham stock cubes .... it doesn't seem to be affecting Scotland. Knorr are still on the shelves of both Co-op and Somerfields.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

BMF very sorry to hear your news, hope you and your family are coping okay...
Even though I'm on target for the GC I kind of still feel a bit out of control. Been v busy at work and home the last few days. We had family staying which was nice but there seemed to be a constant round of making tea and cleaning upI did manage to get out and buy some stuff today - about £6 on fruit and veg (virtuous) and crisps (not so much). I feel way behind in menu planning etc and can't really seem to get the energy together to think about it. I'm also out at class 2 nights a week and struggle with figuring out what I can eat that won't leave me lethargic and/or garlicky or oniony smelling
Anyway will try and get my thinking hat on.
BTW I think I can ask a potentially gross question here ... do you always change bedclothes between sets of visitors? One of our beds was only used for one night by very clean people. I know for sure our next visitor this week will be dead drunk by the time he falls into it. How unacceptable would it be to leave the sheets and cover?? If it was a nice clean lady I would definitely change them but in these circumstances what would you do??
Anyway will update my sig tomorrow, can't be faffed digging out the receipts now. Hope it's going well for all you guys.0 -
