Take care of yourself BMF. Warmest condolences to you and your family.
As for me...sent hubby out to the local shop for some dals (lentils), which are staples for us. He came back with two boxes of curry powders  . The man is addicted to them - one shelf of our fridge is full of curry pastes and our shelves are full of different types of curry powders! Still, he only spent 1.39 so that's not too bad.
Also found a forgotten receipt for 5 GBP so added that in again to bring our total to £83.39. Don't think we'll need to spend more than £5 more this month so fingers crossed for coming in under budget.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

Hi Purplevamp
I googled 'what is a stick of butter' and there seems to be a few opinions on what it might be it seems to range from 115g to 150g.
Hope that helps.

google! Why didn't I think of that? Thanks funky!!
You're measurements were pretty much spot on, I found this:-
What is a Stick of Butter? How much does a stick of butter weigh? We do not purchase butter by the stick in Australia.
Everything is upside down with you people, isn't it? A stick of butter is 4 ounces, a quarter of a pound, approximately 125 grams.

Just a quick Hi...may not complete this month's challenge.
My BIL passed this morning, & just now saving a penny or two isn't high on my list of priorities.
I wish you all well tho, & will hopefully change my mind several times over the next few weeks. Just wanted to let you know if I don't get round to updating my sigs.
Cheers then.BMFx0 -
Quick update on my sig. Spent another £10.86 on essentials for the week.
Loo rolls, milk, veg, fruit, meat, ocean sticks, etc etc. These things are quickly adding up this month. I think its because there was bare cupboards and freezers at the start of the month.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

BigMummaF - so sad to hear your news, take your time we will be here for you when you need us.
purplevamp - butter in the states is sold in 4oz sticks - they look like cracker barrel cheese packs and often come in boxes of 4. The Americans are not into metric at all. If you are measuring any liquids by volume remember that an American pint has only 16 fluid ounces while ours has 20.
I have had a lean few days as I have only spent £2.67 on munchies for the cinema (National Treasure last night) and 90p for a pack of sausage meat to make rolls. I have a SC full of veg soup having emptied all the oddments out of the fridge and there is dough proving in the airing cupboard as I am going to attempt to make part baked pizza bases for the freezer.
Not a wasted day then.:j0 -
Sorry to hear of your loss BMF, you are in my thoughts.
I went with DH shopping to Aldi and managed to spend £73. That means that I have eaten into a huge amount of this months budge. The cupboards and freezer are full so other than fresh, like bread, milk and vegetables we might last last the month within budget. Luckily, WA and b'days come out of a separate budget.
Maybe I won't have enough after updating budget. There's not a lot left.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

:grouphug: to you BigMummaF, thinking of you and yours.
Oh dear, this month is not going well!:eek: Started on Jan 23rd, but have already gone over our £400 budget..:eek: I really must get on top of our spending!!:eek:.
This is including all our cleaning stuff, pet food, and lately, lots of sticky support bandage for DS2 who is returning to sport after suffering shin splints on the first day back at school after Xmas. This bandage is quite expensive, and he only wears it for either his PE or rugby session...an hour and a half at most at a time! Still, he needs it for another few weeks as his muscles strengthen.
At least our freezer and cupboards are pretty full...so will only need fresh F&V, milk and a few more bits 'n' pieces...including SR wholemeal flour...running out, so may resort to white until the end of the month.
Boys on half term now...can't decide whether that will be good or not for the food budget...how do you stop two teenage boys (18 and 15) from eating non-stop???
Off to finish the fish-cakes for tonight's tea...should have extras to freeze for another day.
Have a good weekend

Spent a bit more today than planned, but not all bad as a fair chunk of it was reduced bread, sausage rolls and other bits that will freeze and see us through the week and more.
I'll admit I did spend about £2 last night on some cakes off of the Tesco bakery, something that is definitely not in the budget, but hey, they were on offer, it's the end of term and the kids deserved (and I fancied) a treat. In our defence, we did make them last all of 2 days :EasterBun
Shouldn't need to shop again until we need milk (Monday/Tuesday) - near a big Tesco on Tuesday anyway, so hoping it'll stretch that long and I can pick up some bogofs etc while there.
Spend so far £67.44, with £102.56 left in the budgetDFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0
