I must learn to stop stock piling so much! I have enough food in this house to last for months and still cannot resist those big ole BOGOF signs!!
Signature updated accordingly but please, anyone who reads this, YELL AT ME if I buy anything other than bread & milk for the rest of this month. :o

    In anticipation:

    SMACK!!!

  • Afternoon all :) Hope everyone is ok.

Have done my first proper shop since starting the challenge, my month started on 1st Feb so i'm starting week 2 now. Spends are as follows (i'm rounding up to the whole £ - easier for me!) ...

Week 1 - £13 (bits and bobs, had lots in already)
    Week 2 - £47
Total = £60 out of a £200 budget :T Not too bad so far if i say so myself :D

So i have 3 more shopping days to go this month plus extra milk/bread during the week so £140 left. I still have meat in the freezer plus today's shop has mainly been storecupboard things plus the usual essentials. Hoping to make toiletries/cleaning etc last until next month. DD breaks up for half term next fri so i'll have her to feed for dinners and snacks during the day plus with work starting on our house and some of OH's mates lending a hand at weekends i have to keep them fed and watered too.

Good luck with the remaining weeks everyone

*Edited to say* Oh and ive been lucky this week with Tesco's bogof on fruit and veg, my gran has given me a bag of potatoes, one of carrots and some green cabbage so thats the veg for this weeks Sunday roast sorted. Plus my mam got 3 boxes of mushrooms down to 20p each last night and gave me those so i've made a big pan of soup for dinners next week :) Bless em both!!

I was going to go to Tesco tomorrow but I saw another post on the Old Style board about Aldi having cut price fruit and veg and it was just the stuff I needed (apart from satsumas which were full price but still only £1.29).
So I ducked out from work at lunch time and got everything I needed apart from dog food for a miserly £4.67!
Dog food will be £2 - have to get this from Tesco.

The £10 or so I had hoped to spend this coming week has now been reduced to just £6.67, providing I don't need anything else (perhaps bread but will try to use up what I have first).

So the running total is now £29.96 (including the dog food not bought yet!)

My month starts tomorrow. January ended up not being a success, partly because we moved and I wasn't keeping up to date with my spending, and DH always insists on "going for a coffee" if we go shopping in town, which always ends up being a lot more. So we spent £50.80 on that last month. Much less than usual though after I put my foot down! I'm going to stick to the same budget and hopefully come in under it this time.

    Hello everyone,

We all seem to be doing well so far in Feb. I spent £32.72 last week, which is really low for us. I haven't done an internet shop in Feb either, will try and leave it until March. We still have three weeks left in our month though, so still a long way to go.

I went to Lidl this morning - I go about once every few months and buy apple juice and cheese and things. I only spent £22 which is very good. But you can't get everything you need in there. Our week two started today, so I have around £25 left to last me the week. OH has been very good about being on 'Austerity' (my word for it!) and has even been taking in packed lunches instead of his usual trips to Pret. Long may it last. :j

Good luck everyone for the next week.

Just got my delivery from Sainsburys. The food portion of it was £100 or so. I will pick up bread from the deli on Monday, that's £7, but well worth it for brilliant wholemeal bread, as good as home made (no, I don't have the time to make my own by hand, and I don't have the space for a bm). My freezers are now jam-packed again, I will have to do a small shop next week.
    Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600
    Overpayments to date: £3000
    June grocery challenge: 400/600
  • Went to Farmfoods today for some frozen veg and fruit - strawberries only 50p!! (I add these to the porridge pan while still frozen and they make it all pink and yummy). Also got some ice lollies and crisps in total spent £7. At Tesco I only spent £32.30 and that includes stocking up on Robinsons fruit and barley apple and pear flavour which is very yum but expensive so I only buy when on offer - currently half price- so I now have enough squash to last til end of March lol. Got a chicken reduced to £2 too (sadly not free-range, but at least freedom food so not as bad as it could be.) My freezer is now very full and I am going to have to sort it out, but that will have to wait til I can be bothered. I have menu plans to last until about the 22nd plus a couple of days for the chicken.
Yayy I might just be under budget this month.
Well done to everyone else who is managing to keep tight rein of their budgets, and good luck.
    Off to change my sig.

I'm jealous. So many of you can buy loads of stuff for very little money by the look of it. We don't have Aldi, Lidl, Netto, Asda, Sainsbury's, Farmfoods, Somerfield, Poundshops or any other place where you can get good discounts. We have got Tesco and Co-op but both are expensive. Our local supermarket is Shoprite and when they reduce things it's not by much even if stuff is on its sell-by date. Looks like I'm not going to be able to reduce my budget below £300, and if things keep going up so will my budget!

Hi Kunekune, well done you for buying bread if thats what suits you! Not everyone has the time, money or inclination to bake, cook from scratch, buy free range chicken or whatever, its very much a matter of personal choice. ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
