Hi justamum
it must be really difficult for you with no cheap shops available. Actually, in that case you should congratulate yourself for keeping to the budget you've got.
The whole point of this challenge is to find a level that suits you. Sometimes, for some people, that might be a relatively high figure, for others it's a bare minimum amount. It's different for everyone.
If you've found the lowest level you can get to and are happy with it, then I say "well done you!":T :T

Rosieben, I think I'm sad that I can't make bread, that's why it sounds so defensive. There was a time (when I was unemployed for 6 months) when I made all our bread, and I loved it. The two times I was on maternity leave, I did it again, although with a bm (cooked in the oven, though).
Mrs Bartolozzi, that's a good price for the chicken. It's not just that free range is expensive (and probably should be), but there isn't much around at the moment. I got one from Mr S today and it was over £7. We'll get 2 1/2 meals at least out of it, but it is still a lot of money. I compensated by getting some chicken liver for a cheap pilaff! Freedom food is a good compromise - sometimes commonsense and the needs of the budget have to come first. And they are definitely not those desperately sad birds we've seen recently.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -

Went to Co-op for milk and ended up spending £8.58 because I couldn't resist the BOGOF offers!!
I now have:
2 large jars Uncle Ben's sauces (£1.55 for 2)
2 x 5005 Can't Believe It's Not Butter ( £1.15 for 2)
2 x Sharwoods egg noodles (2 for 1.19)
2 x Aunt Bessie's Lemon Meringue Pies (2 for £1.99)

I must learn to stop stock piling so much! I have enough food in this house to last for months and still cannot resist those big ole BOGOF signs!!

Thanks for the encouragement Bobbykins. I sometimes feel like a failure when I read how little some people spend and still end up with loads of food to live on!0

Sorry mummygems I did see your request for the receipe for the flapjacks, but I have been doing some odd shifts at work so never had time to type it out. Anyway here it is, I adapted it from a Mary Berry receipe, enjoy.
7oz demerara sugar
8oz marg
2tablespoons golden syrup (I use generous ones)
6oz muesli
4oz rolled oats
large handfull apricots, chopped
Large handfull raisins
two small handfulls nuts, chopped, I use brazils and pecans
Pre heat oven to 160c, grease a 12x9in roasting tray
In a large pan melt the marg, syrup and sugar, then stir in everything else.
Mix well and turn out onto roasting tray, press flat with back of spoon. Bake fo about 25-35mins till golden brown, remove from the oven and leave to cool for 10mins before marking into small squares. Leave in the tin to finish cooling before cutting up. Eat copious quantities before the kids see you!:D
Had some small grocery spends, but will update my sig when weekend over.Grippy is my middle name!0 -
Justamum don't be too hard on yourself, you still spend a lot less than many people I know. I can sympathise, we stay quite far from cheaper shops, a spar is our main grocer. Both myself and DH quite often travel for work or to see family so I try to plan really far ahead and incorporate a shop, DH is well trained to phone if near a shop unexpectedly. You do great and keep remembering that.Grippy is my middle name!0

Just added my five receipts for the month already and I have spent £72.05  .
Anyhow, really need to sort out my list for next week, because with half term, if I go wrong, I am going to go wrong badly.
Planning a couple of day trips, so really need to get picnic goodies, otherwise we'll end up in very unfulfilling McDonalds ... yuk.
Thinking back, we haven't had takeaways for over three months (except the odd sandwich when my daughter was first born and we had to stop on the side of the road and feed her for an hour :rotfl: ).0 -
Another £12.53 today added to grocery spend, dog food £8.99,cold meat 2x£1.18 and 2 loafs @59p
Just £31.72 left now for the rest of feb.I really dont want to go over budget this month as jan was a disaster.Just bread and milk to buy as we need it so its still achievable, just.
Hubby may be starting to get the hang of this:D .Better late than never.Today he came home with the shopping as above and I asked for the receipt,he handed me 3 of them.Apparantly he used the automatic till at tesco and there were some receipts just lying there with points on to be used.
He looked totally confused when I said to him,"Congratulations honey, your a womble!!!":rotfl:"Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
Well I think I've started well.
I did an online shop last night at Mr T's to be delivered tomorrow but I printed off the list. My messages including delivery were going to be £57.52
Before I went to work I popped into Lidl's with my printed out order for Tesco and bought what I could from the list with a few extras such as passatta and tomato puree to pad out meals. I then popped into Sainsbury's for the last couple of things I needed. Only need to get icecream and I spent..........wait for it.................£35.60. Can't believe that I knocked off over £20 on my bills :j Will get my mum to pick up the icecream tomorrow when she's getting her shopping.
Now cancelled my Mr T's order and well within my £75 budget for the week. Hopefully allowing for any bread or milk I should manage to put away £35 for Toronto ! Girlie weekend here I come !
Have my meal plan for the week so should be pretty sorted if I manage to stick to it.So little money - so much time :mad:0
